A girlfriend and I went to Bertha's today for a brunch we both ordered the chicken souvaki omelette was very disappointed. Neither one of us eats pork. I haven't ate pork in over 20 years and when I receive my plate something on it looked and smelled suspicious I thought the pork smell maybe because the diner is small and the cook was cooking a lot of different meals I took a fork full and I can instantly taste the juice from the pork of the bacon that was lightly sprinkled on top of my chicken souvlaki omelette. One of the workers came to our table after the complaint and said that they will have our meals fixed it over a few minutes later. Another lady that was a bit older came to the table(I believe she was to cook. I really don't know because I was looking in my phone for something at the time she came to our table so I never looked up at it) and said that they would not be making our omelette over and they wasted chicken and we did not have to pay for the soda and the blueberry bread that was part of our order. We handled it with class and style we didn't have a rebuttal back and forth with her. We just listened to the lady talk and try to make us feel like we were in the wrong because we didn't eat pork and like as if we didn't know what we were tasting in our food. We got up quietly and we left part of me things. We truly believe this was racially profile because how do you say you wasted chicken on a meal that you placed bacon on and on the menu it does not say topped with bacon at all. I was very disappointed. I became sick afterwards. It is now 7:22 p.m. and I still have a headache and my stomach is messed up do I recommend anyone go there? Let's just say I don't know if it was a bad day, but today I will say no, especially if you are a...
Read moreI've been meaning to check this place out for a while. I heard their breakfast selection is incredible. Let me tell you, the rumors are true! I got the breakfast special with bacon, scrambled eggs, and a waffle. Very reasonably priced, incredibly tasty. The waffle was big, airy, and perfectly cooked. I'm still trying to figure out how the scrambled eggs were so fluffy. And the coffee is always on, always hot, free refills, and very strong. A perfect little breakfast/brunch place. I will definitely go back and try other things from their fairly wide menu.
It's a lovely little hole in the wall diner. I think maybe 7 tables? There's also bar seating, for about 8 people, I think. When I say little, I mean little! But it's a pleasant, cozy atmosphere. The staff is super friendly, and very busy (there was only the cook, a busser, and one waitress). However, the waitress never failed to check on us, even with the crowd there. My sister and I went around 11:30 am on a Monday, I think at the end of the breakfast rush. It definitely is the kind of place you want to either get there super early or around noon on a weekday if you want a table. We sat at the bar, but I'm not complaining! It was a lovely experience and I got to see the cooking and kitchen work first hand.
Their bathroom is in the basement, a bit of a maze to get to, but it was fun to be able to see the halls and the old construction on the way. Now, I love a good historical building, and it was pretty cool to walk through the basement halls and see the different rooms (didn't enter because clearly it's all storage/boilers/pipes and you're definitely not supposed to intrude).
10/10 experience. I recommend if you're on Hertel near the North...
Read moreCame here on a Sunday with my wife and 3 year old daughter. Was a cold windy day, so when we were told there was a 4 top ahead of us, and nowhere to wait inside, we waited in our car immediately in front of the restaurant. As soon as the 4 top, who was waiting outside in the cold were seated, I walked in to let the hostess/waitress know we were waiting in our car right out front. She was very rude and said our spot was now given away as she said “I don’t have time to come find you”. I explained that was the reason I came in to tell her, but it didn’t matter. When we were finally seated 30 minutes later, we sat for another 20 minutes before having our orders taken, and another 40 minutes before being served. When I raised a concern that tables who came in after us had come and gone, she just said “we’re short staffed” as if it was our fault and we were being impatient. Eventually, my wife had to leave the restaurant without finishing her meal because it took so long, and my 3 year old was starving after almost 2 hours of waiting.
The food was good once it arrived, but the service was atrocious and the place looked like it hasn’t had a proper cleaning in months.
Also, if you have to use the restroom, be prepared to walk into a creepy dungeon like stairwell in the basement. Sadly this place has gone downhill since the new ownership took over. Used to be a staple but we will not...
