We went for lunch on a Friday afternoon. There were a few tables also sat but also several empty tables, so it wasn’t very crowded.
When we arrived, we were seated promptly and the waitress took our drink orders and answered questions about the menu. She brought our drinks to us and took our lunch orders. Two members of our party asked for ranch to dip their fries in.
When the food came, the waitress only brought one side of ranch. She asked if we needed anything else. We asked for the missing side of ranch, some ketchup, and refills on our drink. She said she would be back in a moment so we began to eat. She then did not come back to check on us for the rest of the meal, and only brought the missing side of ranch after we had already finished eating. No ketchup and no refills on our drinks. We tried flagging her down but she either did not see us or simply did not come over.
The fries were very good and I had the chicken fried steak sandwich which was seasoned well and the meat was decently juicy. However, with the breading and the bun it was still a bit dry. The sandwich does come with mustard and pickles which helped out, but in my opinion adding a touch of mustard on the top bun in addition to there being some on the bottom bun would have made the sandwich an easy 5/5, instead it sits at a (still pretty solid) 4.5/5.
The restaurant and bathroom were also both clean and well-kept. If the service was just a bit better and the sandwich wasn’t as dry, this place would be a 4/5 or even a 5/5 stars. Overall, we were impressed and would easily try it again, hopefully with better...
Read moreThe atmosphere is very welcoming; reminding me of an old timely coffee shop in Arlington, WA. It's a very relaxing place, soft music in the background, beautiful western architecture surrounding you.. I'm glad my family of four stopped by for lunch. Traveling from NE Wisconsin to Albany OR & back is a long trip, as can be imagined. We were on our way to see Devils Tower when we stopped by for lunch, and we didn't know about the haunted hotel next to the cafe; Occidental Hotel. Mom and I were hyped because we love all things supernatural, while the guys weren't really impressed.
The food is really good, I went with a basic BLT w/ coleslaw. The coleslaw is sweeter than I thought it'd be, with a soft bite from the onion pieces. Being born & raised in WA, sweet coleslaw isn't something I'm used to but it was really good. A sweet surprise, I think. The baristas are very kind, and they were more than happy to inform my mom about the occidental. They were able to make my favorite drink; sprite with a splash of OJ. A drink I got from a barista at an old local diner back in 2016..ive been told it's a great drink to help cure a hangover, haha.
Anywho, I would highly recommend stopping by this Cafe, especially if you're...
Read moreWe stayed at The Occidental and had breakfast here our first morning (and every morning during our visit for that matter) but our first breakfast was the most memorable. They were busy constantly but diners had good awareness and didn’t linger and would leave soon after finishing. The food did take a little while, but when a place is consistently busy it’s to be expected and we were never in a hurry so it didn’t bother us one bit. Our server, Zac, was young but he was also attentive, hard-working, never let our coffee cups go empty and was kind enough to get me a coffee to-go. He noticed my last name on my credit card and asked where we were from and we had a good conversation. Being a manager in my own restaurant I understand how difficult it can be to interact with the public but this young man spoke to me like he’d known me for ages and he made our first breakfast at The Busy Bee incredibly memorable. Thank you, Zac, for the great service and the...
