An overall 4.75-star review.
Parking is available along the street or behind the restaurant. Food is made to order so there will be a wait. This establishment has a bar on the premises, a few televisions, and table or bar seating if you decide to dine in.
Ask your server about the daily food and drink specials. They do have a happy hour where some items are discounted.
I found this location on Yelp and decided to bookmark it while in the Buffalo area. It's dimly lit inside and we were seated quickly and our server was very pleasant. Spoiler alert, they don't have sweet tea. Well, I lied, they do but they don't make it themselves. It is the bottled sweet tea you can buy at the store.
There were so many tempting food options but I went with the catfish platter. It came with a small portion of potato salad that was really good, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw and I requested cabbage as my side. The cornbread was just meh and I only ate a little bit of it. However, all the other items? As an amateur magician, I made it disappear!
It's a lot going on in this lil place. Lively employees and the occasional famous comedian sitting nearby make for an entertaining late lunch. For the price point, the portion of food was very fair. The seasoning of the food items was not saturated with grease or seasonings. It was just the right amount and served at the right temperature.
My only complaint is that while eating my cabbage, it tasted like sweet potatoes as if someone double dipped and used the same serving spoon to scoop various items. Otherwise, the customer service was as desired. The bathroom was clean and well lit and stocked.
They are closed on Monday and Tuesday so call if in doubt. You can dine in or get your food items to go. If in the area, I'd return to try some of the other food fare and custom...
Read moreI Really am Hoping that This is taken as Constructive Criticism Because I Truly LOVE & SUPPORT MY Black & Brown People w/ Pleasure ! WE as a People HAVE TO Do & Be Better though! The Food was Very Good, However the 1hr.& 30 + min . waiting Is TOTALLY Unacceptable, & Disrespectful! This was Only Done Because I was w/ Friends & Family that Not only was Treating but really wanted to Give The place a chance Anyways AFTER I Told them about MY Previous Experience there! The Hostess, & Bartenders were AWESOME, but Unfortunately they had NO Control over actual Food Delays! The( Man) Owner sits @ Bar w/a Attitude instead of Addressing the fiasco , & being Hospitable and/or @ least Assisting on the Floor to Move things Along & ACT LIKE You Care ! An APB Had to be put out on the Waitress on several occasions whom After seating us & providing us w/ water had NO Concern in Why we were Actually there! She was Sweet & nice But NON-Attentive ! The DoorDash & UberEats traffic seemed to be only people being serviced for the most part ! And if the Logic is to Make You purchase Drinks by keeping you waiting was the plan, I'd get it IF THE Wait Staff EVEN Return to ask you That. And the Kicker was @ 9:15pm We watched a Elderly couple struggle up the 1 step into the Establishment to a table, sit down, only to be told that the Kitchen was Closed!😲 That's 1st Hand Knowledge that SHOULD be forwarded to Security @ Door, or a LARGE PROFESSIONAL Sign that Would inform the people of the Same Outside! I Went Awhile ago & AFTER waiting 25min. To even be Addressed w/ ANY Table service left ( because I Truly Didn't have Time)! AGAIN the Food was Good, when it FINALLY Came! I Wish Them The Best ! P.s. The Food Prices were Fair & Overall the ...
Read moreEnter this unassuming building (once Mama Rose's) in our former neighborhood and step into a classy but ever so welcoming space that beckons you to choose between cozy tables or a comfortable bar where locals and newcomers mingle while served by cordial staff eager to please you with an array of true Southern soul food that is undeniably to die for!! The menu is extensive, the service is exceptional (Kobe was delightful), and the food is prepared fresh on-site daily by owner/chef Kim Collins-Jones (taught as a child by her mom).
We were drawn to Phat Catz while searching for real Southern fried chicken (hard to find)...and we literally fell in love! This is true comfort food, made with love, and Kim puts her heart and soul into every morsel. If there's food in heaven, this is surely how it looks and tastes! Not only was the chicken fantastic, the mac and cheese was pure heaven; and the cole slaw, potato salad and cornbread remind you that there is nothing on earth to compare with good down home cooking.
Kim and her husband put their hearts and souls into this Black owned business, opening just two years prior to Covid, and not only survived but thrived because they care deeply about what they do and care deeply for their neighbors who in turn have ensured their success. Special thanks to Kim for taking time to come to our table so that we could tell her in person how very much we enjoyed her amazing food and our time...
