Caprese New York Pizza & Pasta — Restaurant in Buford

UPDATE 8/27/21: Very disappointed in this evenings dinner that was ordered via take out. Inconsistent quantity when it comes ti pasta dishes especially manicotti dinner - this evening I have 2 stuffed manicotti shells and very little sauce covering. I've ordered this a few times before and received atleast 3 and much more sauce. Certainly not worth it anymore and i did like this place a lot. I would recommend dining in but NOT take-out. #LetsGuide It has been tough finding restaurants, particularly pizza, after moving here from Pittsburgh. We've tried many and there are some that certainly are a drive BUT close to home this place is great. They have not only great tasting NY style pizza but other options as well from appetizers to pasta etc. There is something for everyone!! I know I'll never get my "vegetable pizza" that is only made by Pizza Joe's here in the south unless a franchise is opened but I do miss that a lot. You'll have to look it up to see what it is but it's weird sounding the way it's made but man its delicious & was one way to get my kids to eat broccoli & cauliflower!! Anyway, this place #CapreseNewYorkPizzaAndPasta is a "MUST TRY" here in the Buford/Dacula area, or wherever you are. I wish they had larger pizzas too because my teen son can eat an entire large by himself - so can my husband but still...I only eat 1-2 slices & if I want a 2nd or more I have to eat quick, which I can't. I'm a slow eater. Besides their pizza, we've had their mozzarella sticks, meatball Parmigiana sub (I need to try the sausage w/pepper & onions sub but I like mine with cheese & very little pepper & onion if any), cheesy bread, manicotti and calzones. I love stuffed shells but they have spinach or seafood stuffed shells & I'm not into either one. My daughter & I would LOVE some cheese stuffed shells. Their menu says "wedding soup" which was one thing that drove us into the place5 but it is not "wedding soup" with the escarole, mini meatballs, acini De Pepe pasta - or other small shaped pasta, and some places put chicken and/or carrots in it as well. My kids love this soup & when we've goneback to Pittsburgh we have ordered 2+ gallons from a certain restaurant to bring back home with us. We did not order the wedding soup on the menu since waiter described it to us as something different - this was in July 2019 when we went in for my son's 14th birthday & was a little disappointed but the pizza made up for that..haha. The kid loves his pizza! They also have Gluten Free if anyone in your party needs it. Due to the COVID pandemic, we've been trying to support small & family owned restaurants so we try to order at lea st 2-3x per month, maybe more/less depending on certain things. So please try to support local and give this place a try. Their hours are 11am - 9:45pm - yes that's an odd time. So the only reason I’m not giving anything below 5 stars is that I don’t believe a business should be judged by one unprofessional employee. I honestly love Caprese Pizza. I’m from Brooklyn and Caprese is the closest I’ve gotten to authentic NY pizza (Brooklyn pizza) in GA. I’m annoyed though because the service I received yesterday was not the best. I initially called to place my pick up order and spoke with a male employee but had to call back. He sounded nice and was helpful. When I called back, I spoke with a female employee who didn’t seem too pleased to be on the phone. I needed to place TWO separate orders and at the end of the call she gives me one total…(I’ve done this multiple times because we eat there at least once a month when we can). I said is that for both? She says “yes, when you get here if you want to pay separately I’ll just split it”….okay? I get there and there was no one at the register and someone who seemed to be a lead or manager (she was busy) asked an employee if she could take care of me because the other girl was in the bathroom. Nice girl proceeds to help and get my order, I tell her I needed to pay separate but she didn’t know how. The lead helps and I pay one order with a $100 bill. They didn’t have bigger bill change so she asked if $5 bills were okay! I said yes I understand. A girl employee comes out from where the bathrooms are and heads behind the register. Sees them counting my change and says “are we going to have enough for tips?”…I’m looking at her confused because what would they have done? Not give me my change because you don’t have enough for tips? It also sounds like the girl who answered the phone. The “lead” answers her I get my stuff and leave. I thought that was unprofessional to say in front of a customer. Anyways, my pizza made up for it! I appreciate the chef he’s always friendly! I recommend Caprese to my group members looking for NY pizza. I would hate for them to experience...

This was my first time visiting this place, and I have to say the initial impression was very positive. The atmosphere felt welcoming, and the host was friendly and attentive, which immediately gave me a good feeling about trying them out.

I placed a carryout order for a large pizza and asked for something simple, just cheese and pepperoni, but with no red sauce. The cashier listened carefully, and even repeated my request back to me to confirm, which I really appreciated. That extra attention to detail made me feel confident that the order would be correct.

Unfortunately, when I got home and opened the box, the pizza was made with heavy red sauce. Since we don’t eat red sauce, we could only take a single bite before having to throw it away, which was very disappointing. I understand that mistakes can happen, especially during busy times, but it was still disheartening given how clear the order had been communicated.

The frustrating part is that everything else the service, the friendliness, and the overall vibe of the place was pointing toward a really great first experience. This easily could have been a five-star review and the beginning of us becoming repeat customers. I truly believe the team here cares about good service, so I hope this feedback helps ensure future orders are double-checked...
