we went to Los Amigos for taco tuesday on July 30th, 2019. the restaurant was busy but NOT as busy as it has been on other nights (we used to go to taco tues a lot). we were quickly seated and as soon as we sat they dropped chips, salsa and hot bean dip... we had the bad luck of getting an angry woman as our waitress. i had asked if there was a house margarita for 5.00 and she immediately barked back at me "NO HAPPY HOUR". i told her i knew that happy hour was over but i thought house margaritas were 5.00 (which i think is only on saturdays), she wasn't nice about it. then told me no. then i asked about a beer and taco special, she immediately said no, so i asked again and she corrected herself saying yes there's a beer and 3 taco special, when i asked how much, she OBVIOUSLY did not like my question. again she barked back at me with "$7.00". i was a little upset by her attitude but i didn't let it bother me because i was with my friends. i ordered that special and everyone ordered tacos. 10 mins, 20 mins, 30 mins and ALMOST 40 MINS LATER... our drinks were empty and STILL NO FOOD!!! so i asked for the waitress and asked where our food was and she got angry at me yelled at me saying: "WE ARE VERY BUSY YOUR FOOD IS COMING..." i looked around us and 4 tables surrounding us were empty. 2 mins later our food came out... ALL TACOS WERE COLD. we were hungry so we ate them and ordered more. guess what... they came out with lightening fast speed. less than a minute or 2 they were out. THIS WOMAN FORGOT TO PUT OUR ORDER IN and instead of being nice and apologetic, she chose to blame us for asking for our food... i told her, "i understand you're angry but please don't be angry with us, we are hungry and it has been a long time" she barked again "i'm not angry"... so the truth is, she DID forget to put our first order in. we have gone to taco tuesday many times and we have NEVER HAD TO WAIT longer than 2-3 mins to get tacos... we did not order anything other than tacos, no entrees, nothing, just tacos. MY RECOMMENDATION: if you come to los amigos on taco tuesday and it looks like your server is a late 30s/early 40s woman, ASK TO SIT IN ANOTHER SECTION... this was our first TERRIBLE experience (with over 15 visits in the past few months).... usually we have the guy with the glasses and trimmed gotee or the other man with the awesome elvis style hair... THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN EXTREMELY NICE, POLITE AND VERY FAST... sadly taco tuesday was terrible...
Read moreFirst impressions - love the mildly spicy bean dip that comes with house chips and salsa! I can't say that it's my favorite house salsa I've ever had, but it is pretty good for what it is; and it works really well either with the bean dip or on a bean and cheese burrito, over their rice, or when added to tacos. Also, I kinda love that I have only ever been served fresh warm chips when sitting down at this establishment. All too often I find that dining in at Latin food restaurants comes with sad or slightly cold, maybe even old tasting chips, and that absolutely sets a tone for what to expect for the rest of your experience.
I was pretty impressed by the molcajete that my partner and I shared the first time we found our way to Los Amigos. The last time I'd had one was in Puerta Vallarta, and I don't know many people who can devour an entre the size of a molcajete, so I was excited to see what came out and if we would both like it. As it turns out, everything that was presented in the dish was excellent, and it was a really fun thing to share, so I would highly recommend this dish as it made it feel like more of an experience for us.
Taco specials are pretty great for the price, and the other combination items that I've had were all tasty enough to keep me coming back.
Somewhat related - I had read another review from a user claiming that the chile rellano was nearly inedible? I don't know what cook dropped the ball when that person came in, but I've had that same dish multiple times, and even slightly customized, always to my satisfaction. Usually, I'll do the 3 item combo with a chille rellano, a specialty ordered chicken and green enchilada sauce with sour cream (aka an enchilada suiza), and a hard shelled crispy beef taco... and each time, my rellano has been pretty darn satisfying. The chile is always cooked through, the light egg batter adds creamy texture along with the stuffed cheese, and i can actually taste the slight char from the blistered chile from before it was dipped and fried... so by my nearly 40 years of tasting experience, I'd call that a pretty good rellano. The crispy taco could be a little more appetizing visually, but it too is...

•Service 5/5: they never let our ice water run out, promptly served salsa, warm refried beans, and chips.
•Portions & Pricing 5/5: huge servings, easily shareable. Prices are fair given the excellent quality and quantity!
•Tostada 5/5: exceptional flavor, refreshing, not heavy, yet filling, the best tostada/taco salad I’ve ever had! Loaded with fresh crisp lettuce, guacamole, pico de galo, sour cream, excellent refried beans, perfectly seasoned shredded chicken, and I’m not sure what kind of cheese was on it, but it was excellent!
•Mahi Mahi 4/5: my friend ordered this, said fish was cooked perfectly, and steamed veggies were great sides.
•Diana’s Mole 4.5/5: my friend said the mole was unlike anything they’d had before (in a great way). A unique dish worth trying!
•Combo #6 Two Soft Steak Tacos 4.75/5: two loaded tacos, side of rice and beans, and the most incredible Corn Pudding. Two of us shared. Personally, I preferred the chicken to the steak, but it was still great! That Corn Pudding though, it’s a MUST try, I’d never tasted anything like it before, outstanding.
•Classic Margarita 5/5: $7 Margarita Monday! My friend said it’s one of the best margaritas they’ve had, it must’ve been - they got two!
•Martini 5/5: my friend loved this. Strong, great flavor with a kick of jalapeño.
•Carnitas 4.25/5: my friend said the pork was flavorful, came with lots of veggies, and great sides.
I’d love to come back to this area just so I could eat here again, so yep, I highly recommend...
