I recently visited Pizzeria Delfina in Burlingame with high expectations, only to be left incredulous and deeply disappointed by the establishment’s inexplicable rigidity.

One would assume that an establishment purporting to serve Italian cuisine would understand the fundamental role that garlic plays in the authenticity and richness of Italian flavors. Imagine my dismay when my simple request to add garlic to my pizza was flatly denied. I was told that adding garlic to any pizza was against their corporate regulations. This is not just unreasonable, it is borderline absurd.

Garlic is a cornerstone of Italian cuisine, and refusing to add it to a pizza is like serving a sandwich without bread. It’s nonsensical and detracts significantly from the culinary experience. The unwillingness to accommodate such a basic and reasonable request raises serious questions about the restaurant’s understanding of the cuisine they claim to specialize in.

Furthermore, the staff did not offer any satisfactory explanation or alternative, which reflects poorly on the customer service. It’s as if the customer’s preferences are entirely inconsequential.

In an area replete with dining options, it is baffling that Pizzeria Delfina chooses to alienate patrons with such an arbitrary and ill-conceived policy. I strongly urge the management to reevaluate this ill-advised regulation and consider the culinary roots of the dishes they serve.

I cannot, in good conscience, recommend a restaurant that shows such a flagrant disregard for the tenets of Italian cuisine and the preferences of its...

Dined here years ago and was disappointed, but I like to give restaurants a second go…and was just as disappointed this evening. Right away, as a single diner (pleasant older lady, well dressed) I felt that the hostess, who was not at all welcoming, was trying to discourage me from staying 🤷‍♀️ There were several 2 seater tables available, as I pointed out, so she let me sat me at one and walked away brusquely. Menu lists wines by brand but does not show type (only “blanco”). I wanted sauvignon blanc but I know my wines and was brought a short draw of what I know was an oaky yellow chardonnay. I ordered pasta 🍝 priced at $29, which turned out to basically be spaghetti with a fancy description, though it was nothing special and, as other diners have noted, a very small (basically child sized) portion in a small bowl with about 3 tiny shavings of parmesan. No bread (their crostini is extra $). I shared my disappointment with the manager so was at least comped the crostini, after mentioning my disappointment, and Yelp. I am always generous with my servers, and he was a hard worker, but $65 later for whatever ‘blanco’ wine and a very small portion of basic spaghetti, so I recommend diners go enjoy our other Italian style/pizza restaurants in downtown (RISE 🌟and Capri for example, where I am a regular, always feel welcome, and food...

This review is for ordering out during the pandemic.

I was recommended to eat here by a co-worker. Ordered online. Thought it was weird there weren't pizza sizes online thinking they must all be larges. So already my expectations were out of proportion. The I ordered which it told me the wait would be 50 min. A bit long but I figured fair for a "large" clam pizza. Got to the restaurant gave them my name that I was waiting for an online order. Got there at my time when the email said to arrive. 17:05. Was socially distancing in the lobby with everyone picking up multiple pizzas realizing my mistake on the size (just couldn't believe I paid 26 dollars for a personal pizza). Then finally when no one else was waiting they asked my name again went into the cabinet and pulled out a pizza on the bottom corner. I asked if I'd been waiting an extra 30 min for no reason was 17:35 at this point. He said no it just came out 2 min ago and threw away my receipt with the pizza which I anticipated had the time on it. Idk about you but I've not had a pizza "just come out of the oven" and be cold when I bite into it 2 min later in my car. Would never recommended anyone ever purchase online and pick up here. Too expensive for a taste of pizza and if you order one pie apparently giving your order on time...

My 13 year old niece told me I had to try this place. She loves pizza and said it will not disappoint! Girl was right! I looked at the downtown San Francisco Location, but if I could tell you one thing to do while finding somewhere to eat is MAKE RESERVATIONS!!! The Burlingame location luckily has reservations same day! GPS drove us through this quaint area full of restaurants and shopping. We found a spot across the street and down just a little. We walked in and were seated immediately which was lovely! We sat against the wall so I could see the kitchen and staff. They give you these thin bread sticks that won’t help calm your tummy if you are hungry, but damn they are good, so if you want more, ask! We ordered the Panna Pizza, Funghi pizza and the spaghetti. Then as I was looking through their Instagram, I found the Chickpea salad! I showed them a picture cause I was not sure what it was called without having a menu in front of me anymore. The salad was amazing! Great dressing enough lettuce and added in items. I was pleased. BUT…let me tell you about the pizza!!! The Panna was out of this world amazing! The parm on top was an excellent touch to what would be just a margarite Pizza. I really wanted to eat it all, but was so full! This place is highly recommended! 15/10!!!

The pizzas are very good, as are the arancini and salads. The soft serve for the affogato had a weird tart/sour flavor as if it was frozen yogurt, so it did not work well with espresso. It used to be better. The service staff are friendly, but still learning the nuances of how to serve… touching and moving around your used salad plates on the table to clean the table and then leaving them there for you to reuse, yuck! I can tell they are trying, but missing the mark. The noise level of the music inside makes for a very uncomfortable experience! It was hitting 100 db!! See my photo of the reading I got. This is not a healthy level for the service staff either, this level can lead to noise-induced hearing loss. It’s as loud as a nightclub, but looking at the clientele, there are many families and older people, so they aren’t catering to their client base. And they play terrible indie pop!! Italian pop would at least make more sense. You can’t hold a conversation and it gave me a headache. The ambiance otherwise inside is nice, as far as decor, and the open kitchen. I forgot how loud it was there, so I will only return if it’s warm enough to sit outside.

This place is a mixed bag. First, the good: Their pasta is great. They have proper, authentic carbonara, with eggs (not cream) and guanciale (not panchetta or bacon) which isn't too common in the USA. Since they have "pizzeria" in the name, you'd expect them to have good pizza. They say it's Napoletana pizza, but it's not really. I tried a Margherita. The base is too thin meaning the pizza basically falls apart, while the crust is way too thick and is bland, tasteless, and too dry. Compare the pizza here to somewhere like Doppio Zero, Terun, or Napoletana Pizzeria, which have actual (AVPN-approved) Napoletana pizzas and you'll immediately notice the difference. Finally, they add a 5% junk fee. This is a sneaky way to increase prices in a hidden way, without adjusting menu prices to reflect the actual price of items. This is anti-consumer and I'm taking off one star as a result.
