Butler Dog House — Restaurant in Butler Township

This afternoon I drove over to Butler and ordered some hot dogs (or so called “big dogs”) at the Butler Dog House Sandwich Shoppe for my lunch, which were loaded with chili sauce, cheese, grilled onions, and bell peppers and served with a side of pickle spears! This restaurant along Pennsylvania Route 8 at the Greater Butler Mart shopping plaza is quite a swell find! Food is of high quality and relatively cheaper over here than some of the main chains that serve fast food, and I would say that the food offered here at Butler Dog House is quite similar to the local Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe fast food chain throughout the Beaver Falls area. Plus the art of food characters and dog characters painted on the walls of this restaurant is very creative and gives the atmosphere more of a cartoonish feel. Even the trash cans fit in well with the atmosphere, blended with shades of red and yellow. What a unique place! I’ll make sure to stop by...

The Butler Dog House is carrying on the tradition of the Butler Hot Dog Shoppe. By no means is this a restaurant that would rival Ruth's Chris, but for a tasty, quick lunch this is a great place. Try a dog with chili, onion, and pickle. Get gravy on your fries. Yes, the gravy and the chili might be dripped on the bun or tray. If that's the worst thing that happens to you, you're doing well. In fancy restaurants, they drizzle sauce across the sushi and onto the plate. It's character. The staff seems a bit gruff, but they are all great, hard-working people. The food was decent. Unfortunately, we had browsed the menu posted on their official Facebook page, and we didn't realize it was posted in July of 2022 (I'm writing this in May, 2025). The prices have changed considerably. We racked up a $60 tab very quickly trying to feed a family of 4. For a burger and hot dog place, that's way too much. I couldn't find it in me to leave much of a tip. The food was decent, as I said, but nothing thrilling or worth writing home about. We likely won't be back, which is a shame, because folks seem to say good things...
