Simple Fish — Restaurant in Byron Township

I have avoided coming here after a previous ‘not so great experience’ and sadly I was proven not much has changed. I placed a Togo order at 12:20 a taro SMOOTHIE boba with extra and a sushi burrito, the confirmation stated it would be done in 40-45 minutes. I arrived promptly just before 1pm just to see if it might have been completed early. The gentleman at the register let me know the chef was working on my ‘next’ and that it would be right up. He then offered/asked if I would like my boba smoothie. I agreed as it was the main item I had been craving. I was extremely disappointed when handed my drink as it was no longer smoothie at all. It was now a milk tea(I assume this was made right when the order was placed instead of properly timed for when the rest of the order would be completed), in which I could have gotten anywhere else for about 1/2 the price. I further inquired if extra boba was added as requested and they must have changed the original amount of boba given as it was in no way comparable to the amount of extra boba I have received previously. It is now 1pm and I see that boxes are starting to come to the register as done. The cashier and chef are having many side conversations and time is continuing to lapse. Discussion on video games and outside topics, which I am not complaining about side conversations…however. The chef stated being behind and forgetting an order TWICE. I believe there is a time and place to have side conversations but when orders are 1. Behind and 2. Not ready when promised it is very unprofessional to not remain focused. My burrito was finally completed just after 1:20pm. All around this place is better when you are not placing a togo order and proper customer service awareness as well as items ordered are aligned with the rest...

I've heard nothing but good things about Simple Fish. We finally got around to trying it and it did not deliver. After being sat and had our drink orders taken (4 waters), our drinks didn't come out until shortly before our food. The sushi rolls were nothing special and the sashimi didn't really taste that fresh. I left one piece of sashimi because I couldn't tell if there was a vein or a worm in it. Better safe than sorry. Our servers were maskless and one of them was surrounded by body odor that you couldn't ignore. He probably was working very hard, but unfortunately, that affected our appetite. It didn't help that we were sat in the middle of the restaurant so we were constantly exposed to it as he was walking back and forth. One of the sushi chefs was laughing at a take out customer after he left. Apparently his request for enough sauces for three people was funny? Good thing there are plenty of other better sushi...

Simple Fish is simply the best. My boyfriend and I love sushi and decided to look for a place to eat sushi in Grand Rapids, we mostly eat in Kalamazoo. I was told by a lot of friends to try Simple Fish. We ordered 3 different types of sushi, one being the Dragon sushi with eel. We both never tried it and decided to do so. We ended up not liking it. I told the server if he can take the plate away. We were in love with the other two choices we made and were planing to leave pretty satisfied. Once going to pay the owner sincerely apologized for us not liking the sushi. The owner felt so bad that he gave us two extra rolls on the house to make up for not liking it. We were both shocked that he would do that for a decision we both made. We were planing on leaving happy but were overwhelmed with joy and kept taking about how great this place is. Will definitely be coming here more...
