Pelican's Boquerón — Restaurant in Cabo Rojo

Maybe the waitress was having a bad day or maybe not. It was NYE early evening, the place wasn’t crowded the waitresses didn’t look like in a rush. We started ordering some water to start, which we never received. My partner ordered a drink for him at the bar, the waitress brought two. He told her it was just one, she took it back. Then I ordered something to drink which I second guessed and my partner told her to cancel it and she asked what I was getting, he said I wanted a beer but still had not decided which one. A minute later she brought a local beer, which we did not order but we were celebrating and we didn’t want to cause her anymore trouble. We ordered our food. Like half an hour later, half of what I ordered and half of what my partner ordered was brought to the table. The food was typical fried fish and a steak, they tasted good and we enjoyed it. We thought the rest of the food would come so we started eating, like 10 minutes later we went to the bar to see if the rest of the order was coming or not. They did not have an answer, and one of the waiters went to the kitchen. When she came back out we asked to cancel and she said she couldn’t because they were working on it (close to an hour had passed since we ordered). After a few minutes she came back out and said what I had ordered could not be made because something happened to the plantains (more than an hour after ordering). We just spent the weekend in Boquerón and were looking for breakfast after spending a couple of hours at the beach very early in the morning on Saturday. We came across Pelican's and decided to try it even though we read mixed reviews... we liked it so much that we went back on Sunday morning after the beach as well! The place is very quaintly decorated, very clean and the a/c is great if you're looking to get out of the sun and heat. The staff was very nice, attentive and the service was fast and pleasant. They had a Brunch menu on Saturday and Sunday and we tried the carnivore omelette, the breakfast sandwich (Criollo) and a breakfast plate that included your choice of pancakes or waffles, your choice of eggs, hash browns and your choice of bacon, ham or sausage. Everything was very good, good portions and very tasty. They serve good coffee, and I loved the lemonade. I can only attest as to the Brunch service right now, but will come back whenever we visit Boquerón again. Don't get too hung up on the few bad reviews, give it a try! Hopefully you'll like it as...

Really bad experience. The restaurant was about halfway full. We sat down and ordered drinks and appetizers. All of the appetizers are fried foods. There is nothing in the menu that has vegetables so if you are looking for something “healthy”, don’t even bother. We kept having to call the waitress over to order things as she paid us no attention. We ordered the main course and waited one hour. The waitress did not come to check up on us once during that period. Finally, we asked the waitress if the food was about to be ready. When she came back from the kitchen 10 minutes later, she told us that there were still two orders ahead of us. One hour and they still had not started cooking our food. Needless to say, we asked for the check, paid for the drinks and appetizers and left. Luckily, there are food stands in the streets outside where we were able to eat.
