Long story short. I went back for another try. Brought along four others. EVERYTHING was remedied. Appetizers through dinner was as it used to be. Fantastic. Specifically the French Onion Soup. Thanks for hearing your customers. Kuddos.
Back story first. During 2018 and 2019 the family and I had dinner there about 3 - 4 times a month. No exaggeration. We had a particular waiter we requested every time he was available. We loved it that much. Then…COVID hit and all stopped. A few weeks ago three of us went there for dinner. I asked the waiter about a menu item that used to be available. He said they still have it but wasn’t on the menu. It was a huge fried chicken breast over mashed potatoes and some beans. The dish I got that night in no way resembled that. They also added cut up burnt Cajun sausage. Also ordered French Onion Soup. WAY different and much smaller that before. Was no soup. A scoop of carmelized onions, bread and cheese. Sorry to say the dinner was not only underwhelming, it was cold. That particular night, Saturday evening, I also noticed a few things. Getting a parking spot was quite easy. That NEVER happened the years I spoke of earlier. You could literally drive around for 15 - 20 minutes waiting for a spot. Also, there were many empty tables. Again, a VERY rare occurrence. My wife and daughter thought their meals were…okay. Fast forward to last night. Another Saturday. First, same with parking. Parked right up front. Again, same with open tables. My wife and I this time. I ordered a fish platter and again the soup. Soup was as the previous week. The fish on the platter was okay. The shrimp, not bad. The hush puppies, fries and chicken looked like they may have been cooked quite some time ago. The tartar sauce was the best I ever had. Wife’s was okay. BTW. 2 other tables sent all their fries back. What has happened? What has changed so drastically? If I put 2 and 2 together, the parking lot and the empty tables all makes so much sense. In the past I have recommended this place to everyone and anyone that would listen. It was that good. I wouldn’t do that now at all. The only reason I’m writing this is in hopes the right person sees this and maybe steps back a bit and surveys the situation. I have no doubt that numbers over the past few years have changed. Ask yourself…why? Please forgive any spelling or grammatical...
Read moreA friend of mine is a regular customer and told me I may find something I liked on the menu , so she and I had dinner at the Purple Onion last weekend . It was very crowded and I’m told that it’s like that often . It’s a very popular spot . The menu was loaded and it was hard for me to decide . They had a lot of great choices . I settled on Leggo My Eggo burger with Cajun mashed potatoes . For an appetizer I ordered fried crawfish tails and a simple lemonade to drink . The burger looked amazing -exactly like the picture . The taste was not as impressive . There was no seasoning at all on the meat . I had to salt it , or dip it in the extra creole sauce I ordered . The sauce was for the fried crawfish tails which were delicious ! It was the best thing I had and I would go back just for them . The Cajun mash was ok. Again , no real seasoning but was loaded with healthy pieces of crawfish and there was some sort of spicy season that was in there because I could taste the heat but nothing else if that makes sense . My friend ordered the full white wing plate which is chicken breast stuffed with cheese and jalepeanos wrapped in bacon and they were pretty good . They were very filling . I dipped them in sauce as well which helped me enjoy them more. She also ordered white cheese dip and chips and I thought the cheese dip was pretty good . Not amazing , but good . I don’t think she cared for the cheese dip , but enjoyed her white wing plate . She said the cheese dip with the ground beef is better to her . What I can say for sure is that though some things lacked a lot of flavor , the quality was top notch . Like I knew the burger was a good piece of protein . The bacon was a thick cut premium bacon , the eggs were fresh . As long as salt and pepper are in the table you’ll be fine . The service was fantastic . Really great waiter . I’m giving the whole...
Read moreThe restaurant is very clean. Which is saying alot because we usually visit during peak hours. The blinds are not super dusty, the open ceilings that expose the air ducts are not dusty, and the bathrooms were clean & stocked. The items on the table were clean and not sticky like most family places. Our drink glasses were clean, our silverware was clean. Alex was our server, & she was great. Very attentive & never had to ask for refills, food came out fast & she checked on us shortly after to make sure we had everything we needed. Most of the menu items are average, and the reason they charge more $ for these menu items than most places is to balance out the cost of the seafood dishes they offer. Most people dont take into consideration how expensive this is. Also, this is considered an "upscale family dining/sports bar". This isnt Dixie Cafe yall. My husband ordered a beer and we didnt have to join a club, as a previous person commented. This place is still pretty new from a business standpoint and I think when they are waiting for a liqour license- they have to follow a different set of rules than most places for the first year. Especially in a dry county. Im not certian of this, but just a guess. Service is great, food is delicious, and they have some really unique cocktails that are hard to come by in Cabot. If you want extra lettuce or onion on your burger, just ask and they happily accomodate without upcharging. From a business standpoint, if you are trying to cut down on foodcost and waste- it seems reasonable that you'd start with a smaller portion and provide more when asked.( Just saying.) Most of their dishes are portioned large enough to feed 2 people easily. Like their cajun pasta! Whoa. I had enough for dinner and then lunch the next day. This is a great addition to Cabot. Just give em a try, and I bet youll...
