Food was good but can't say as much for the staff. (If i could give zero stars i would.) Due to covid-19 we could only get our food through drive-thru, so we got our order and parked in the parking lot to eat our food. Next thing you know there are 3 police cars around us and they have my husband performing a field sobriety test while I'm being asked if there are any drugs in the vehicle or if we had been using drugs. What?!?! (Answers: NO & NO!!!! I let them search the truck anyway to prove the point.) Oh, and my husband passed the sobriety test just like we knew he would, and they left without giving us a single citation, or an apology either for that matter!! And why did all of this unwanted and unnecessary attention from law enforcement even take place? Because the cashier at The Mean Pig BBQ drive-thru couldn't understand my husband very well. (He doesn't exactly have a speech impediment but LOTS of people have trouble understanding him because he talks too fast, cuts his words off short, etc.) But because this cashier couldn't understand him, she just ASSUMED he'd been drinking and therefore called the police on us for no reason at all. I hope she was watching through the window and saw that the police let us go about our business, nobody got arrested. If she saw us drive away that will be the LAST time she sees us because we are definitely...
Read moreI want to start this review by saying that the service was awesome. This in no way is a reflection of the employees.
My order consisted of two 2 meat meals. The foods chosen were: Chopped pork, Brisket, Potato Salad, Baked Beans, a roll, and sweet & mild BBQ sauces. Chopped pork, Jalepeno Cheese Sausage, Potato Salad, a Cookie, a roll, and sweet & mild BBQ sauces.
The food was very lackluster. The BBQ didn't have much of of a smoked flavor. The chopped pork tasted like it was cooked in the oven and had no smoke flavor and was dry. The brisket had a mild smoke flavor and was dry. The only meat that was alright was the jalapeño cheese sausage. It was more flavorful and wasn't dry. The only thing that saved the pork & brisket were the sauces.
The sides were ehhh as well. The Potato salad was heavy on the dill/pickle flavor. The baked beans were basically pork & beans that had an off flavor I couldn't place but it wasn't a good thing. The cookie was a store bought cookie that they sold as a side. Same for the rolls.
Last was the portion size vs. price. The sides were 4oz containers. While the meat portions were about 4-6oz. So one meal was 8-12 oz's of meat, and 8oz's of sides, and a roll for $15-$16. Two meals costing $30-$32.
I am very disappointed in everything and will not be...
Read moreI was very disappointed in the food. As someone who has smoked many kinds of meats myself, and eaten from other bbq establishments I was expecting decent food. We got a small meat plate and 2 kids meals (hot dog and pulled pork sandwich). They were out of sliced brisket so we picked ribs and chopped brisket, potato salad, mac and cheese, comes with a drink and roll. Total of $34. My husband and I took one bite of the brisket and it did not taste like any brisket we have ever had. I don't know how to describe it but of the many briskets I have done myself and had from others I have never tasted anything like it. My husband was able to finish it with bbq sauce but I couldn't eat more than a couple bites. Ribs (spare, not baby back) were too dry and sides were just ok. The child who had the pulled pork sandwich said it tasted funny but still ate it. The hot dog was a very good one, big and thick, and one of the reasons for 2 stars. They get chips, cookie and drink so a good meal for the price for the kids. Husband got 2 Blackberry cobblers and said they tasted like they had sat for awhile in the warmer, so those missed the mark too. Service was good and the place has a nice, updated look and feel but I would not go again nor recommend to friends based...
