Imelda's Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Caldwell

I would like to preface this by saying that my parents have been going to Imeldas since its inception. My sister and I have grown up being taught that Imeldas is a valuable asset to the Hispanic community. Not just because of the excellent food but because of the excellent customer service. When we go to Imeldas, we know we can be treated like family. We are welcomed with a big smile and made to feel quite welcome.

Upon entering the establishment today I was faced with a now hiring sign. And when I walked up to the counter I did not see any familiar faces. When I was finally able to give my order, I was asked TWICE in an annoyed tone, "if that is what I really wanted. Because "they had a lot of food to fry." Now, I'm accustomed to waiting for my food at Imeldas, because it's the best and usually quite busy . I would drive any distance to be met with the amazing welcome and wonderful food that Imelda offers. We informed the young lady assisting us, that yes we would stay. So, we waited at our table and watched as those who ordered before and after us received their food, fried or not. We did receive our food exactly 30 minutes after we ordered. I was confused why were treated with such reluctance. Had we offended someone? Did we order something that was not in stock? Not knowing the answers, I went ahead and ate what was given to me. It was not what I usually order and I paid extra for it. We left the restaurant completely unsatisfied. IDK what's happened at Imelda's, but the change hasn't been good. My husband & I arrived on Thursday at 12:15pm. There were maybe 5 people total inside, no one waiting in line. Yet, I stood at the counter for 5 minutes before someone came out to help me. Our lunch order came to 26.00, which was to include 2 beverages. I say was, as the only drink available was water, unless you wanted to purchase a bottled beverage at full price. Their fountain machine was completely out of order & the iced tea dispenser only dispensed water. Their lack of concern & failure to offer a discount on our meal or on the purchase of a bottled beverage made us decide to change our order "To Go". The decor inside has changed dramatically. It used to be a comfortable gathering place for both couples & friends, tables situated in such a way that provided just the right amount of privacy to enjoy ones meal in peace. The walls were filled with eye candy, enough to keep your mind entertained until your food arrived. NOT ANYMORE! Eye Candy is gone. Replaced with stark white paint & a few wall hangings. The seating is limited to a long table with several chairs in the middle of the room with a few tables against the walls. You are exposed to everyone, no privacy there. Was disappointed that they no longer serve Menudo on weekdays, only weekends. The food is still tasty, but they put too many beans & not enough meat in their tacos (I ordered the works). I have been eating here for 30 years or so. Does not compare to the original owner. Service is low quality and keeps getting worse. I placed an order for 15 tacos and was very specific I wanted extra veggies on them. However, when we got home and opened the tacos they had very few veggies on them. To be specific 4 to five pieces of lettuce and less of the others I requested. When I called to inform them of my order being inaccurate the lady simply told me they tried but it is hard to add the veggies since they roll them up. The owner told me I need to ask for containers. I explained I asked for extra veggies and since they know that they can accomplish this with a container they should have placed them in such. He did offer a full refund of my order. However he only refunded a third of it. When I confronted him he said he never said a full refund. I explained that I was not happy with the outcome which he ignored. I will definitely reconsider...
