McAlister's Deli — Restaurant in Caledonia Charter Township

I'm not one to usually post a negative review (grew up with if you don't have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all), but after this being my third time with very mediocre service, I figured it was time. We arrived around 6:30/6:45 and immediately upon entering they were already putting up the rugs and had a very "we close in an hour and a half" demeanor, which I can understand from working in food service for almost a decade. However, when we ordered our food, towards the end of our order, we were notified that they were out of menu items, okay that happens, and my family had to adjust what they wanted. After ordering, the people behind us who ordered their food were told that they ran out of soup of the day and asked if they wanted something else, which made a lot of the patrons question if we were still getting the soup that was ordered. The staff was incredibly confused about the statuses of almost every order, and we waited a little over half an hour for our food. There was no gusto or pep in anyone's step to make sure things got out in a semi timely manner and this has been my experience with almost every visit and for the price and wait, my family could have went to sit down at a restaurant. We got our food and headed home to only discover that, 1.) The soup that we ordered (which was the soup of the day and we had gotten two orders of it) was literally only 4 spoonfuls at most in one of our soup containers. 2.) The mac and cheese was EXTREMELY overcooked (I get holding hot food can do that, but this should have been changed even an hour or two ago). 3.) We were missing condiments on our sandwiches (mine was missing the BBQ sauce and my wife was missing hers as well). 3.) Lastly the kiddo got the nachos and about 90% of the chips were pulverized as this was not due to consumer error as the bag was taken from the store and sat in the back seat, not being jostled or tossed around. I will say our first visit was much better but these last two have been quite a turn away from this...

First experience at McAlister's Deli in Owosso is a mixed bag. Three of us had dinner and the total was $37.00. The employee taking our order was very efficient and friendly, however...our wait time for our meal was quite long (probably 20 minutes). I ordered the Italian sub with a cucumber and tomato side. The meals do not come with a drink so I opted for water. My meal was absolutely delicious and I highly recommend. My husband ordered the Memphian sub and a side of chili and purchased a small soda at additional cost. He loved the sandwich, but could not eat the chili. It tasted similar to Hormel and not real chili, say like Wendy's serves. My grandson ordered a wrap and chose a side salad as his side dish. The salad was an additional $2.99 (I believe) and he also purchased a large fountain drink with an additional charge. He did really enjoy his meal. Overall, I give McAlister's Deli a 4 star, but most likely 3.5 if it was an option. A few too many extra cost in my opinion. Will probably stick with Culver's due to the fact everything is included for the price on the menu board, also twenty minutes seemed like a rather long wait for subs. Went for our first time today to the new Mcalisters in Owosso. Might be our last. The food was good but you don't order like a usual drive-thru. You have to order online and are given a time when your order is ready. Our time was 1:02 p.m. Got in line but our name did not show. A car came behind us after 5 or 6 min so we left and drove around. Waited another 5 min still no name. Another car came behind us so around we went again. By 1:16 and another car behind us, we went to the window and asked about our order and they said "oh it was ready at 12:55 and you're name was selected". We didn't select it so they said, "oh sometimes people hit the wrong name, we're sorry". So our food was ready 7 min early but noone told us, our name got deleted from the que, and our food sat around for almost 25 min. Plus it was over $40 for 2 people for lunch. I realize that this is their "thing" (you also order online even when you dine in), but it's not an efficient way to run...
