We are on a road trip across the SW of the USA and are overnighting in Mojave. We did a little Googling looking for somewhere to eat and stumbled on The Golden Bamboo Restaurant so decided to have our evening meal there. We pulled up and went inside to find the place quirky, clean and a little run down - that is the only bad thing that I can find to say about the next hour. The guy single-handedly running the joint on a Monday evening was busy with a large order, but he took the time to provide advice and then took our order (items 55 & 67 from the menu) whilst explaining that it might take a little longer than normal to prepare our food. It took perhaps half an hour, but when it arrived it was well worth the wait - the food was excellent, freshly cooked and delicious. It was as good as we have had anywhere, and for it to be available in a small dusty town in the middle of nowhere was a major surprise - and a delight. After completing our meal we had a chat with the guy running the joint and he is a lovely fellow who has a real passion for cooking Thai food - this shows in the quality and service ; if we are ever back in the area we will certainly drop meal in for another meal. Read moreSo I drive up to the Eastern Sierras quite a bit to go hiking. The amount of decent food is scarce from the Mojave to Bishop (IMO). So I decided to venture slightly off track and head into California City. It was absolutely worth it.
Completely true by other reviews. You do not expect this place in a run down and a bit sketchy area.
The person there was super helpful (I am vegetarian) and had alternative substitutes for people like me.
The green curry was excellent. You really can taste the coconut milk (do not expect shocking green color, it is more muted). Also had pad woon sen and garlic broccoli. All were ample portions and cooked perfectly.
He even brought my to go order out to my car (I was sitting inside with the windows rolled down because I had my dog with me).
Will...
Read moreId show a picture of our food but it was so good I forgot to take a snap, maybe that's the trend of why there's not many pics online. It comes in these cute reusable boxes that have a great seal so right when you open it you get blasted in the face with fresh scents of spices and veggies. Oh and you know it's legit when they put my crab wontons and chicken egg rolls in the to go box and pop holes on the lid to make sure the food doesn't get all soggy! You Guys Don't Think Eat! Also the Spicy Basil Pad Ka Pow with even mild chicken had a nice kick so they're about the flavors. Highly recommend good food and portions for the price were stuffed and still want more lol. MIGHT HAVE PICS WHEN WE GO BACK...
