Beach Hut Deli, Granite Bay — Restaurant in California

In general Beach Hut is pretty great, if a tad pricey. This particular location seems to be busier than others so the wait time is longer, which can be a little awkward given how cramped the space is. Also, something about this Beach Hut makes me feel like a fish out of water. Some guests are greeted like Norm from Cheers, and others barely get any eye contact, let alone a greeting. The whole place reminds me of the popular rich kid clique from back in high school, which is a weird thing to say about a restaurant, but that's the vibe. 🤷‍♂️

There's this hand-painted mural that covers two walls on the patio, depicting something like 10 to 20 people all in various poses enjoying a day at the beach. On the surface it's charming, but every time I see it I'm more convinced these are portrayals of actual people, presumably friends and family of the owners or staff. Everyone depicted is young, pretty and white. It's kinda odd.

This is the original Beach Hut Deli location. The staff is always welcoming and the food is always delicious. I love their Marley nachos with pulled pork added, and I ask for the cheese sauce on the side. Their new back room with the wine bar is a perfect place to spend Friday afternoon with my laptop finishing off my work week. They also have beer specials on Fridays! In the summer, my family stops off here on bike rides out to Folsom Lake. We love the outside open air seating area they added. We also use this as our picnic lunch spot when we are headed out on the boat. Order ahead for pick up so you don't have to wait! I visited this place for the first time this weekend and I'll be honest, I regret that I've been avoiding this place for so many years. I thought they just had sandwiches, but no. When you go inside, you feel like you're in Jamaica. Incredibly beautiful and authentic Hawaiian or Jamaican beach atmosphere, music playing, the whole place is decorated in the style of a beach bar.
