First, the positives: The food was delicious, and our server, Ella Joy, was absolutely lovely. If it were just about the food and service at our table, I’d happily give this place five stars. Unfortunately, the rest of our experience left much to be desired.
I made a reservation at Sette to celebrate my mother’s 84th birthday, drawn in by its great reviews and convenient location. Upon arrival, the maitre d’ began setting up a freestanding table for us. My mother, hoping for a more comfortable seating arrangement, politely asked if we could be seated at an open booth instead. The maitre d’ responded with an overly cheery, “I don’t think so!”—which took me aback. Thinking I had misheard, I asked again, only to receive the same response. When I inquired why, she explained that booths were reserved for larger parties, and since we were just a party of three, we couldn’t be accommodated. While I understand restaurant policies, the delivery of this response felt unnecessarily dismissive.
Once seated, we quickly realized that the restaurant was uncomfortably cold. It was a damp, chilly evening, and the combination of the restaurant’s open layout, potential drafts from the doorway, and inadequate heating made for an unpleasant dining experience. We kept our jackets on the entire meal, and I rushed to ask for the check because I could see my parents were uncomfortable.
To make matters worse, by the end of our meal, the booth we originally requested remained empty, and another booth that initially seated four was now occupied by only three guests. When I brought this up to the maitre d’ on our way out, she casually replied, “Oh, that group is still waiting for another person.” Whether or not that was true, the rigidity in prioritizing policy over hospitality was disappointing—especially when we were celebrating a special occasion.
It’s a shame because the food truly was enjoyable, but the lack of warmth—both in atmosphere and attitude—made for an underwhelming experience. I wouldn’t return, at least not for a...
Read moreFirst I would like to say to the owner. Thank you for your service. Having said that, let's get to the rest. My wife and I love Italian food and we where really excited to try this place out. Upon arrival, it is located in the corner of the strip, the resturaunt itself is laid out in an odd pattern, my guess it is due to the layout of a corner space, but it did seem a bit sanitized, or cold if you will. Once we where seated our table was wobbly. I was concerned for the safety of the wait staff and our children. Didn't want the glass carafe to fall and potentially break. The waiter kindly shimmed it for us, to prevent further wobble, and assured us it was to get fixed the next day. We ordered the bread board as an appetizers. Be warned, probably the smallest portions, in the Sacramento region, but the garlic cheese sauce was really good, it came with 3 small dishes of dipping sauces. My wife ordered the alfredo, it was bland and runny, so she did something she has never done before sent it back and asked for another dish. I received the lasagna, which they said was their signature dish. The presentation was good, but when your order one of their 7 dishes, keep in mind that's all you are getting. If you order lasagna, that's what you're getting a slice of lasagna. Now for the taste. Overall it was pretty good, but the biggest detractor was it was way to salty. My wife had ordered it to take the place of her alfredo she sent back, and one of our kids also had ordered, we all came to the same conclusion, it was way to salty. Overall, it's nice to see a new local Italian restaurant, and we wish them well. But you only get one chance to make a first impression, for the money they command, and the product and service we received just didn't meet our expectations. Hopefully they can hash things out, as they are still new. Good luck. Your experience may be different, this is just our experience, but we go to hundreds of restaurants in our area, this was...
Read moreAbsolutely fantastic dinner at Sette Pasta House (which also is offering lunch now!). Our 10y/o son demolished his Detroit style pizza (made on their incredible focaccia dough, with the perfect crisp and soft yield to it), he opted for the cup pepperoni (real pizza lovers know!!) with feta, jalapeños, and hot honey.
We all shared the Sette Salad, which has an incredible herby, basil and garlic dressing that I could probably drink, if given the chance. Also delicious was their classic Caesar salad, which anyone who loves a really good Caesar will happily devour. We also had the chance to try their bread board, which comes with three delicious dips (the garlic Parmesan - omg, but all three were so yummy) and their freshly baked and beautifully constructed focaccia blocks.
For dinner my husband and I shared the lasagna - the chef put 18 years into perfecting his bolognese, and you can really taste every second of love and dedication that went into that sauce. The house made ricotta and freshly made in-house pasta combine with that bolognese to just the perfect balance of flavors, the umami crushed tomatoes, the perfect combination of meats, and the silky pasta…. Instantly crave worthy.
We also shared the filet mignon, which was perfectly cooked and so tender. They sous vide their meat after giving it a little marinade and you can taste the perfection and the craft in their preparation. It comes on a bed of delicious mushroom risotto, with perfectly grilled asparagus. We finished our plates to the point you would think our dogs had gotten at them, they were so shiny and clean.
We finished the meal with excellent gelato, salted caramel and cookies and cream. I ordered with the intention of just having a bite, but nope, wiped that bowl clean as well.
It’s so hard to find authentic homemade pasta and elevated Italian in this area and I could not more highly recommend Sette as a wonderful place for a truly memorable meal....
