Birrieria Jalisco is long standing staple in the community, boasting over twenty years of service. Originally located across the street, the restaurant has now taken over the former space of Tacos El Unico, continuing its tradition of serving authentic birria from Jalisco its broth is more of a soupy consistency, the menu features both goat and beef birria along with other delicious dishes like tacos, tortas, sopes and so on.
This establishment is family owned where you see two generations with both elder family members and the younger generation attending to customers; The service is fast and efficient. One of the standout features is the handmade tortillas, which pairs perfectly with the rich flavors of the birria.
My go to dish is the birria de chivo tatemada en caldo, which is lightly charred goat meat in a flavorful broth. I also order a side of refried beans which in my opinion are fantastic they’re silky smooth and pair perfectly with the handmade tortillas. Just a warning their salsa is spicy if you aren’t too good with heat be sure to omit it.
Parking is convenient with an adjacent lot and street options available. However, be prepared for limited seating, especially during the morning rush. The seating consist of about 6 benches within the restaurant and a few more outside. My only complaint is how close the bench is to the table which made it difficult to sit comfortably during...

As a former New Yorker who absolutely loved the food during visits to Jalisco, this is one of the highlights of relocation. New York City had exactly zero birrierias, and the places that did attempt the stew always used beef instead of goat. ° Moral of the story: any trip to Los Angeles should include a stop at one or more birrierias to sample the goat dish from Jalisco. Some of the best are in South Los Angeles, and this humble Compton Avenue joint would be a good place to start. The beautiful bowl shown here was deep and full of flavors and spices. Even better were the tacos de birria, which you can ask for with handmade tortillas for a slight upcharge (as with any taco here). This is always worth it, as you already know. ° When you enter, look behind you and up as the big menu board is over the door and window...
Read moreThis place is a joke! I was actually excited to visit since we used to have birrieria Jalisco in Las Vegas, NV and it was the best place for birria (true birria, perfectly seasoned and roasted in brick oven, not just boiled meat on stove) Besides that the little cashier at the front is kind of rude shows no customer service attention at all, except for its ridiculous "Quiubole Primazo" (what's up dear cousin) Even worse they only take cash with no signs advertising different and the little cashier thinks we all are local because he remarks it with an attitude. I gave them 2 stars just as courtesy. We have better places in Las Vegas. Tortas ahogads Guadalajara is a 100 times better than this "birrieria" and they truly show you their appreciation for your business. I will never visit birrieria...
