I love it when we find places that have an unassuming facade, but thoroughly surpass your expectations. Dominick’s definitely hits this mark and I highly recommend it.
Our visit was with the family and we ordered a couple of appetizers. The first was the antipasto which included cheeses, salami, coppa, olives, roasted peppers, and more. Complimented by a drizzle of olive oil, this was a perfect start to the meal. The next appetizer was a shrimp bruschetta. Personally I do not eat seafood, but I’m told it was good, the shrimp cooked well and the crostini delicious.
For entrees, I personally had the mushroom risotto with grilled chicken and a side of minestrone soup. The soup was actually the best minestrone I’ve ever had, unfortunately I don’t have a big stomach so I couldn’t eat the whole bowl if I wanted to eat my actually entree. The soup is loaded with lots of vegetables and beans, there is no pasta in the soup which was a nice difference.
The risotto was cooked very well, it was creamy and very mushroom flavor forward. However, if I had to critique the dish, it was under seasoned and could have used a nice pinch of salt and pepper. The grilled chicken was probably 2 seconds away from overcooked and the cut had some grisly parts. Overall, flavor is there, just some seasoning and maybe a bit more quality in the chicken and this would have been so good.
The rest of the family had their two specials, the Chilean Sea-bass and New York Steak with Shrimp, fettuccine Alfredo with grilled chicken, and cioppino.
My better half had the cioppino and was in heaven. Absolutely devoured it and really enjoyed the quality of the seafood. My son had the fettuccine and was very happy with his meal. The New York Steak and Shrimp was completely eaten, but there was some critiques with the Sea-Bass. Again, I don’t personally eat seafood, so I’m taking this from others to share. The sea-bass was floured and cooked, but not fried and also didn’t include a sauce or some sort of compliment to the fish. It did have a lot of delicious vegetables, but the lack of a sauce was missed.
That being said, the service was great. Our waiter was fun, funny, and we were well taken care of by the whole staff.
Overall, I will be going back and trying other food. It’s got a great atmosphere, the music was nice - not too loud and played modern songs. So, if you’re looking a good Italian place, definitely look...
Read moreI've been a resident of the area since 1976 and I have shopped the deli, which I find to be a very decent delicatessen and I've had a beer or a glass of wine, from the bar in the adjoining restaurant, on a couple of occasions and I have found the staff and bartender to be attentive and friendly. I also have noticed that the bar has an eclectic assortment of spirits that one just doesn't come across very often. I thought that it was high time to give the food a test and so I ordered the "Rocky's House Pizza" to go. I hadn't had a real Italian made pizza since the 1980's and that was in San Francisco. I know of two places, or I did, in L.A. that can make a pizza the way it is supposed to be made and taste and I know of a couple of other such places in San Francisco, or that I did, as they may all be a thing of the past now as for the reason being that it has been so long since I've visited either area. I have long been hoping to to find a place in the East Sacramento/Folsom/Granite Bay region that can make a pizza "right" Well this ain't the place. In fact it was one of the worst pizzas I've ever had. My room mate is of the same opinion and he had worked as a sous chef for a number of years. It's not as so much for the reason being that there was probably only one full piece of prosciutto on the pizza, although it was a real small piece if it was, but for the fact that everything else was terrible and the cheese had a very oily consistency. The dough wasn't even very good. I paid $25 for a pizza that I ended up throwing more than half of away. I am not familiar with pizzas made with Fortina cheese and that may be the reason why I didn't like it? I don't know for sure but I do know that I won't ever order another one. Update 2017.For lunch I had some of their pasta with the alfredo sauce and meatballs. The pasta and sauce were delicious but the meatball was among the best I've ever had. I come from a large Italian family and it's as good as the best of theirs. I may give their pizza one more try soometime but not one made with the same cheese as any place that can make a meatball like they do deserves another evaluation. I also got a couple of cannolis to go . Multo bene. They just went up two stars from my...
