High Steaks not just for carnivores! Everything ordered from the Au gratin potatoes, asparagus, to the king crab was reported as excellent.
Side note: While at this restaurant, I wondered about a dish here came to be…a friend explained sadly.
If you love animals or even if you don’t but do not like cruelty you may want to know about this…

“What Is Foie Gras Made Of? Foie gras is the engorged liver of ducks and geese which have been force-fed a mixture of grain and fat.
How Is Foie Gras Made? To make foie gras, ducks and geese are force-fed two to three times a day via a feeding tube inserted in their gullet (oesophagus). In a process known as “gavage”, a mixture of boiled grains and fat is then forced down either by hand or mechanically. The amount of food is much greater than the birds would naturally consume and is increased over a period of time.
Using new mechanical systems, this feeding process can be completed in just two to three seconds and will continue for 12 to 15 days for ducks and 15 to 21 days for geese before they are slaughtered. Why Is Foie Gras Cruel? The production of foie gras is so cruel and horrifying that it has been banned in 16 countries. To produce foie gras, workers insert pipes down the throats of male ducks twice each day, pumping up to one kilogram of grain and fat into their stomachs, or geese three times a day, up to two kilograms daily, in a process known as “gavage”.
What Happens To Female Ducks In Foie Gras Production? Foie gras is only made from the livers of male ducks, making the female ducklings of little value to the industry.
Is Foie Gras Legal In The UK? Under the Welfare of Farmed Animals Regulations, British farmers have been banned from producing foie gras since 2007. However, foie gras can still be imported and is readily available in supermarkets and served in many restaurants.
A YouGov survey of 1,700 people commissioned by animal rights charity, Animal Equality showed that 86 per cent of respondents expressed an opinion opposing the force-feeding of animals, and 81 per cent supported a ban on foie gras imports.
In 2022, the Government’s Animals Abroad Bill was expected to include provisions to ban foie gras imports. This bill would also have cracked down on trophy hunting and fur trading. Unfortunately, this part of the bill was dropped in February when it met opposition from members of the government including the Minister of State for Brexit Opportunities and Government Efficiency, Jacob Rees-Mogg, who reportedly opposed the ban on the grounds that it was an infringement on personal choice. Foie gras goose being force fed Is Foie Gras Legal in the USA? The law regarding the production of foie gras in the USA varies from state to state. In California, no products can be made by force-feeding birds with the intent to enlarge their livers from being produced or sold in the state. This law has been in effect since 2012, despite a number of legal challenges attempting to overturn it. In 2019, New York City prohibited the sale of foie gras made from force-fed birds, which took effect in 2022....
Read moreIt was our 1st time eating here, though we visited Thunder Valley Casino numerous times. Our reservation was at 6:30 and we arrived at that time. We were seated promptly in which we appreciated. We did take about 15 minutes to decide on drinks and food as we wanted to go over our choices and decide what we wanted. Our server was pleasant and attentive. The atmosphere was.....dreary. The lighting was low, and there were very few people in the establishment. We were seated at a table that was small, and one chair was within the aisle, and the other seat was booth style. There were other options that were better suited for 2 people, but oh well. We ordered around 6:45, for my wife, short ribs, for myself, Wagyu burger (well done), meatballs, a side of Brussel sprouts, and a side of mushrooms. Our order was now placed, so we waited...7pm, still waiting...7:15pm, still waiting...7:25pm, still waiting. However, our waitress at this time informes us our food will be out shortly, they're plating it now. 7:28pm our food was served. We ate the meatballs, which were very tasty and well prepared. My wife said the short ribs were delicious. As I prepared to eat my burger, ordered well done, my wife commented on the Brussel sprouts, possibly not being done. I cut my burger in half as it was quited large, and then noticed the pink meat within. I informed the server, and she returned it to be re-cooked. I tasted the Brussel sprouts, and indeed they were still hard, only charred on the outside. I tasted the mushrooms, and the sauce used (which tasted like sesame) was so overpowering, we couldn't eat them. After about 10 minutes the server returned with my burger, at which time I informed her about the Brussel sprouts, she removed them from the table. I recut my burger and unfortunately, the meat on the inside was still pink, while the outside was just more charred. At this point, we were done. We asked for a box for the food, and explained that after the recook, the burger was still medium well. The manager, Shawn, did come and speak with us and issue an apology, as well as offer other items (which we declined). I explained that at this point, I would take the burger home and cook it myself. There is no hard feelings, though we heard so many high remarks for High Steaks, and it's always packed, it just was an ominous experience. I have pictured our full meal, my burger as it arrived, and my burger cut and after they had recooked it (still some pink). We are unsure if we will eat there again, but hopefully it was just some fluke,...
Read moreFood is good service seems dependent upon how you look..was not this way it was the last times I was here. Their deconstructed Beef Wellington is one of my favorite dishes which I fully intended to order last night. I sat down and was ignored completely and there was very few people at the bar. I didn't get asked if I wanted bread while I watch people who sat down after me get asked if they wanted bread. Had to ask for a menu twice and a water twice while the people who also got asked if they want bread had water placed before them as soon as they sat down. What the bartenders don't know is that I am a pretty amazing tipper if it's deserved (as I used to be a server over 20 is usually my minimum) I ended up ordering the cheese platter with salami and had to ask her twice for the list of cheeses then she tried to read the Cheese's off of her computer screen half the bar away I told her I couldn't hear her. ( I've see. the cheese list here before it's a small separate menu) She just proceeded to grab the other person's credit card and take their bill she turned her back on me and just continued to take care of the other people's bill. I figured when she was done she would find the menu and bring it to me. At this point mind you I still had no water but had been made my vodka red bull by a whole other male bartender.. I then decided to ask him if I could get the cheese list and then she proceeded to try to read it off of the computer again and then he handed me the cheese list... Needless to say I ordered my cheese platter which was decent but the way I look at it is most cheese options should have at least a Brie a Camembert a blue so on so fourth.. Wasn't the best nor the worst platter that I've had I make better ones at home..no olives not much bread no grapes, apple or fresh fruit. Nuts were ok.. I used to frequent here once a month at least I'll probably be going to Red Lantern from now on which I've never had a problem at and has some of the best Chinese food that I've had. And great service. Needless to say if you're not a guest at the hotel not a regular or on a date you're probably not going to get treated the same as anybody else that sitting next to you at the bar if you're single. Tipped my 20% and left. I would have got better service at the freaking Panda Express or the fat burger in the food court! Staff needs to be...
