I've only had ice cream at this place, and I should've kept it that way. This was my first time ordering food, and the experience may keep me from ever visiting again.
I ordered the half crab sandwich/tortilla soup combo for $18. First off, our server, Mario, handed me a glass of water that still had lipstick on it—already setting the standard for my upcoming disappointment. My expectations weren't too high, but I could smell the crab before it even hit the table. When I opened the sandwich, I was met with a pathetic, watery pile of some sort of canned crustacean plopped on top of a wilted piece of lettuce, all smashed between two scabby pieces of bread.
I regretfully took a bite and was immediately bombarded with a sour, pungent funk. My taste bud torture should've ended there. I thought surely the soup would be this meal's "saving grace."
Nope.
The tortilla soup was poorly seasoned and had a faint taste of aluminum. Two round tortilla chips were haphazardly crushed on top of my cup serving. One spoonful gave me the courage to speak up about this frightful combo.
I kindly mentioned that it tasted off, but Mario insisted it was prepared just as it always was. She even claimed that I'd ordered it before, saying it was the same crab used during my "last visit." She then proceeded to argue with me about ordering food in the past. I'm sure she confused me with someone who came in for ice cream, but she felt the need to gaslight me about it. Trust me, I would remember ordering that horrendous, overpriced abomination.
I'm grateful they took it off the bill, and I don't normally leave reviews, but after this experience, I felt compelled to warn future guests: STICK WITH THE ICE CREAM.
In conclusion, I've learned an important lesson: If there's lipstick on the water glass... Don't...
Read moreWe had a disappointing experience at Ice Creamery. My daughter found a hair in her ice cream after eating about half of it. We let the staff know, and the girl at the counter was friendly and apologetic. She said she would speak to the manager.
A few minutes later, the manager came to our table, said nothing, and wordlessly placed a new cup of the same ice cream in front of us. I told her we didn’t want it. Maybe we didn’t want the same flavor in case it happened again. Maybe we had just lost our appetite. Either way, an apology and a simple “Is there anything we can do to make it right?” would have gone a long way. Instead, she awkwardly picked up the ice cream and walked away without a word.
We waited a few more minutes, expecting some follow-up or acknowledgment, but none came. We eventually just left.
The girls working the counter were polite and helpful. The manager, on the other hand, was useless and clearly didn’t care. A little empathy would have made all...
Read moreRidiculous service here. We would like to order a split ice cream for dine in. This is our first time to here, we did not know we should talk to cashier first or waitress first. However, when I mentioned to the cashier and the waitress that I would just order a split ice cream for here. All of them behaved embarrassed like I did something bad. And the cashier asked me to the front to pay for the ice cream. And, I noticed something wrong. So, I confirmed with the cashier if I must eat the ice cream outdoors, and she nodded her head. Finally, I left right away. I do not know whether they think I am not gonna pay tips or not if I just order an ice cream split. However, the whole process was totally wrong and their face changed super fast. Note: it is 7:50pm,04/24/2025. The outdoor temperature in Castro Valley is 12 degrees Celsius ( I use Celsius as the default symbol...
