I don’t know where to begin. We were invited to join friends that are long time customers of Moonrakers in Auburn. They wanted to try this new location in Cameron Park. The place was very busy. So… there was no parking in their lot. Their lot is way to small to accommodate the capacity of the establishment. Their were many customers parking down the street away. Not a big deal, but one wonders what the designers were thinking as matching the number of parking spaces to capacity is a pretty easy calculation. Then, when we went to order we had to wait in line for half an hour. Again, why such a small ordering space for such a huge establishment? We finally got to order and their computer system went down. More waiting. It came back up, we ordered, and were told it was an hour wait for the food. Again, really? They didn’t build a kitchen large enough to support the capacity? Ok. Tables were scarce, but people were leaving quickly after eating so a table popped up. Why were people leaving so quickly? Because a band was playing so loud that it was painful. The volume wasn’t the complete problem, the poor sound system gave the music a horribly distorted sound. Unfortunately there is only one small area in the entire place that customers can sit if they cannot listen to sound at that volume and that area is used for reserved parties. Thus, after walking around we selected an available table inside. The sound, unfortunately was not lower inside and was in fact more distorted. The facility has large garage like doors that are open in good weather. But the sound of the band carrys inside, reverberates, and further distorts. It was awful. This was why we saw customer after customer leave immediately after eating. It was unbearable. The food was fine. Hamburgers. Not great, not bad. But certainly not worth the 1.5 hour wait. Their beer is very good. But there are plenty of other places with very good beer - that’s not a find. I have to believe that all these issues are known to management and they just don’t care. That is probably the most disappointing aspect of the visit. I don’t see any improvements soon. If you go, choose a weeknight. Avoid the weekend chaos, it’s just not worth it. For us, we will not...
Read moreMoonraker Millhouse in Cameron Park, CA is nothing short of phenomenal. The ambiance is perfect - comfortable yet exciting, providing a stellar setting for any gathering, big or small. Space is aplenty, ensuring that you never feel cramped or hurried. It's a relaxed, welcoming environment that invites you to slow down and savor the moment.
What the food menu lacks in length, it more than makes up for in quality. Each dish is an adventure in itself. The Millhouse Burger, assuming I've got the name right, is easily one of the best I've ever tasted, with a medley of flavors that dance on the palate. The Port Sando is another crowd-pleaser, expertly crafted and absolutely delicious. The food here is consistently outstanding, no matter what you order.
No review of Moonraker Millhouse would be complete without mentioning their extensive beverage selection. Their array of beer, seltzer, and wine is impressive and caters to all tastes. I appreciate the thought that's clearly gone into curating their list, showcasing both well-loved staples and intriguing novelties.
Adding another dimension to the overall experience is the live music. It's the cherry on top, enhancing the already fantastic atmosphere and drawing you deeper into the unique Moonraker Millhouse experience.
Perhaps my favorite aspect, however, are the roll-up doors. They cleverly blur the line between the inside and the outside, offering a seamless transition that's both charming and innovative. This design feature is a testament to Moonraker's ability to blend the traditional with the contemporary in a truly unique way.
In summary, Moonraker Millhouse is an establishment that manages to excel in every aspect. I wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone seeking an outstanding dining and socializing experience. It's truly a gem in Cameron Park, CA. Five stars...
Read moreWe tried to attend the grand opening on Saturday, May 20th. The lines for food and drink were unreasonable so we left and returned Monday, May 29th and most of the Memorial Day Traffic was gone. The location is beautiful and spacious with an indoor and outdoor spaces that are peaceful and inviting. The parking lot is paved and room for at least fifty+ cars and even has EV charging. But when massive crowds want to join, then it gets dicey and spills down the street and into dirt parking.
When we arrived at 7 pm on Memorial Day, most the people were gone so we had no lines. We always start with tasters and then purchase pints of our favorites. They didn't offer 4 or 5oz pours at the time, but instead had generous half pours. So we tried four beers.
All the beers were solid. I really liked the Amelia, which is a coconut hazy IPA and tasted flowery. It is rather rich and sweet and the server mentioned people often mix it with the Electric Lettuce, which is another beer we've always enjoyed. We tried the Zulu Haze, a NE IPA and others. Coneholio, an Imperial IPA, was only available in cans and we took a four pack to go. It was excellent, very hoppy.
We ordered a BeerBQ Chicken, a wood-fired pizza with chicken in a beer BBQ sauce, jalapenos, pickled red onion, garlic, and cilantro. The pizza is delicious, but the jalapenos are fresh and pretty hot so I took some off. We also tried the gluten-free Street Tacos, with chili-verde pork, and onions, cilantro, salsa verde. The tacos were fantastic.
We plan to return but will avoid the high traffic days. We loved the space, the food, the beers, and the service. But we aren't fond of large crowds and I think the brewery draws them for their award-winning beers and...
