Honest & objective review here. My husband & I have been coming here and enjoys eating sushi here when we crave sushi. It’s the only sushi place in Fallbrook & we don’t want to drive farther. Prices are decent and have good selections on their menu. The owner & staff are very friendly. The inside looks decent in size. Smaller than other sushi place I’ve been. Not too shabby & not too clean either in terms of floor sanitation. I always see food here & there on their floor and sometimes on chairs/tables. I’ve never been to their bathroom. On my recent visit with few of my family members, our experience made us think about their sanitation in their kitchen. Needless to say, a hair is found and appeared to be engulfed in a chunk of lint. A lint that you can find in your dryer. It was found in the tempura between the fried batter and the sweet potato when my family members splitted it to share. It’s gross! I ordered and ate same tempura that I finished already by the time the linty hair was found on one of my family member’s order. Made me think if there’s some too on the once I ordered & ate. Ugh. We lost our appetite and one of my family member almost retch. I gestured the owner to come to our table. I showed & told him about the issue quietly without making a scene and asked him to talk to his kitchen staff in regards to food sanitation & safety. Owner took the plate back to the kitchen. I’m sure the owner is ashamed, it’s his business; however, never heard him apologize to us. However, the owner took off the the one meal off the bill, out of 3 meals and gave each of us a complimentary matcha ice cream. We paid, left, & never seen the owner again. Not sure if we’re coming back to Yama Sushi, but, we’ll definitely explore outside Fallbrook to try different sushi place. Hope this...
Read moreCame in here on a whim; just so I could try out the majority of Asian food cuisine in the neighborhood. Fallbrook is so small, that you can basically go to 3 establishments and have a general consensus of what a general food-type is like in the area. That being said, I've passed this place at least 3 times before and could never participate due to it's working hours. I finally made it in time to catch a "lunch" time eating affair. I immediately wanted to test out their sushi (just due to their namesake). But I also wanted to checkout what they considered a general menu item. So I ordered the Fallbrook Flower and the Sushi Burrito. The wait-time was pretty much standard for waiting in an establishment that had about 6 customers waiting-for; A wait time about 6-10 minutes. The staff was pretty standard and emotionless upon greeting and taking orders; but this didn't bother me because I didn't expect a passionate heart-felt interaction between us. This was, afterall, a fastfood sushi establishment, that had been disguised as a dine-in restaurant. The ambiance had the basic, stereotypical Japanese decor and a tv that was flaunting espn sports on blast. No Asian ambiance whatsoever. I got my order in a timely manner and enjoyed the tastes, as I witnessed the random smiles upon the staff. This was enough to tell me that they were just "doing their jobs", providing a service; but had enough in them to smile for formalities sake. You wouldn't even notice if you were here conversations with another. A good place and the only place for sushi in the neighborhood of...
Read moreBest sushi happy hour I have ever received! 20% off from 2:30 - 5. However if it's over $45 it's 30% off! Our total came out to be be $42. We were unaware of the happy hour deluxe special, but our waiter explained if we order something small our total would be cheaper.. so of course we had to indulge on some mochi! That's awesome and honest service, thank you Kaleb! If it wasn't implied, the sushi chefs are masters at there work. Cheers, see ya soon! Edit: Wow what a shame of false advertising and poor hospitality from any one from Kaleb. Yama wouldn't honor the very huge visible sign out side there door stating 30% off for happy hour dine is special. Once ordered they said its a $45 minimum. Nothing on their sign says anything but the basics. 30% all orders dine in special 2:30-5. Once I asked to see the sign outside they rudley told me they weren't able to put small print on the banner stating it was only $45 or more to recieve the discount.. So it's the customers fault? For the business lying on advertisement.. ridiculous. Shame on you. The owner, for not even stepping outside to see the sign your...
