world's famous Ray's shrimp House in Gary, Indiana🔥🔥 🍤👑😉

There are not many options in NWI so when I had a craving for fried shrimp, I was pointed here to Ray's. My first initial impression was "It's in Gary, really"? If you can look past the sketchy surrounding, you're in for a treat. This place held it's own and could contend with the any of the great Chicago shrimp houses beyond expectation. I ordered a LB of shrimp with both hot and mild sauce on the side. My order was made fresh and came in a chinese rice container packed with delicious fried shrimp, excellent and enjoyable. I preferred the mild sauce over the hot only because the hot sauce is that signature East Chicago mustard hot sauce that to me does not pair well with shrimp. They do not offer cocktail sauce so the mild took the win. I will definitely be back and highly recommend this hidden gem.

Regularly seeing people visit this restaurant sparked my interest in dining at Ray's. As I entered, I asked customers how was the food. They commented positively on the food. The restaurant offers comforting sides to complement the fried seafood menu. We ordered shrimp and whiting. Ray's fries reminded us of McDonald's fries. The shrimp were perfectly cooked. However, both the shrimp and fish lacked flavor. Daily specials are inexpensive.

Ray's shrimp used to be the spot when coming back in town. However, it's beyond ridiculous in my opinion for this location to not close until 10pm but magically tell customers 30 mins before "oh by the way we don't have no shrimp but we got perch and other stuff". I've never heard of a shrimp house that doesn't have shrimp! Are you kidding me?! Ray's Shrimp is one of a select few of food establishments our family looks forward to when coming back to the G. I think they just didn't want to drop nothing since it's close to closing time (another customer said the same thing and that they do this often). In all actuality, workers wanting to get off quicker isn't my concern... keeping the same quality consistent service as the one that's now closed should be pertinent to provide regardless of time. I'm so upset and struggling to give this a 3-star review since this is the first experience with this location and based off this foolery alone, this should be lower.... so this is me being nice and remembering the 20+ years of good family memories before coming to this location.

In one encounter, they've completely ruined/tainted years of great experiences and food for me.

If you plan on buying shrimp or anything else from here, make sure to call before getting your hopes and taste buds ready because they might "be out" of what you want... it's a shame really . If visiting from somewhere else you may be SOL and just leave with disappointment instead of an...

This review is not about their food but their customer service. I miss out on getting Ray’s every time I’m in town. Rays was one of my favorite restaurants growing up, today I was finally able to get them after not being able to have them in over a decade so I was excited. Called in to place the order and the boy who answered the phone was shockingly disrespectful. He was rushing me off the phone as I’m trying to place my order, told me he don’t have time to give me a total because he has people at the window as if we not all paying customers. Needless to say I refused to spend money with that type of disrespect, regardless if the customer is in the phone or in your face we all deserve the same respect and we are all patronizing a business paying our hard earned money. I politely took my funds else where and hope someone utilized the order I placed. Guess I will be going another decade or so without getting Rays I will try again when they get a...
