Let me first say that I love Clover. If there were to be a business or a company that I believed highlighted the best that Boston has to offer, it would be Clover. I often wonder why there's not a Clover in Logan Airport as a crown jewel of the city's fast casual scene. Now onto the not so fun part. I have 5 other Clovers and been to Clovers at least 30x a year since I moved to Boston in 2011 so have a lot to compare my experience to. In the three times that I have visited the location in the past year, this is my least favorite location. Here's why: The food quality is poorer. I get the barbecue seitan and often the seitan is cold, and the outside of one or two medallions dried out into a husk that's inedible. Every single time and this is my favorite dish. There is some amount of chaos typically involving a manager or leader yelling or berating another employee. During the Superbowl last year, I walked into a manager or team leader(?) calling a person a name and told they joke like that to let off steam. Yesterday, the leader was getting upset while an employee was asking for clarification. I mentioned to everyone (I think you should give feedback in person before you post it on the Internet) that I empathize it is tough running a business and every day is not a good day, but just said that coming into this location was my least favorite experience. They were all very receptive and sweet. I pulled one server aside and asked what was going on, and he said honestly they're tired. The 24 hour location meant that a lot was going on and they were overworked and he mentioned that as a consumer I should advocate for a better experience. They all want to do a good job, and are all good employees, but from my experience (and mine alone) I do think this location struggles to offer the same or better experience as the others. I am here doing what I promised I would do by way of the employee I spoke with in just asking the management to keep an eye out for that location and help everyone there with management practices and just rest when needed. All out of...
Read moreBizarrely bad experience. I’ve eaten here many times and always been wowed by the food and service.
This time, my fries had no rosemary, so I went up to the counter and notified the staff. The man took a sprig of raw rosemary, tore it into 3 huge clumps still on the twig, and placed the clumps on top of the fries, not even bothering to toss it. I dumbfoundedly returned to my seat and tried tearing up/eating the raw rosemary myself.
After a few moments I returned to the counter and gently asked “sorry, not to be rude, but what is the normal process for making the fries? I didnt know if maybe the process changed since I last was here.”
The blonde woman working then interrupted me and said angrily, “is there something you want??” Taken aback I asked “am I being rude?” She just repeated, aggressively, “is there something you want??” I told her that truthfully, I would like if the fries could possibly be remade.
Without saying a word, she spun around, huffily grabbed a handful of fries, and literally threw them into the fryer basket. Once they were properly prepared, she handed them over without a word, despite me expressing my thanks a number of times.
At no point did either employee offer an apology for the fries being incorrectly prepared, or for the attitude of the female employee. We were also never offered any dipping sauces.
Before me, there was another gentleman whom the same woman had spoken rudely to as well.
It was especially disappointing because I was hyping up Clover to my husband, who had never been to Boston before. I was expecting to show him a gem, and instead left embarrassed and wishing I hadn’t brought him...
Read moreI love Clover. They are one of my favorite eateries in the greater Boston area. Their food is unique, creative, and inspired. It's all vegetarian, and it is refreshing and fun to have such an extensive array of tasty vegetarian options. A number of standard dishes are complemented with a rotating roster of inventive and delicious dishes, often offered for only a short time, making them extra special, with items whose return I look forward to each year. Why the sometimes brief windows of availability of these special creations? It's because they use seasonal produce at its peak, and source most of their ingredients from local farms. I highly recommend the Panelle sandwich and/or platter, which I missed for the past 2 years and finally got to experience this August. It was worth the wait! A friend from the West Coast loves to visit each time she visits Boston. They have several locations including one open 24-7. For unique, delicious, innovative food that is environmentally responsible and supports local farmers, they can't be beat. Clover is innovative and fun, a roots-driven company with real personality and flair. They have an engaging company culture and a playful, joyful personality that comes through in their blog and their personable emails. Staff are friendly, accommodating, and helpful. Go discover,...
