On the tail end of a trip to London, I stopped in Boston/Cambridge because it made flights a little cheaper. I don't really know my way around Cambridge, but did some basic research on crime and walkability. I picked Amory House for my first night (and eventually second night) stay. I had a great experience, but I also got a discount on the rooms. I don't think I'd be too excited about paying $90 a night for it. The place is quite clearly a left over mill house of some sort. Incredibly large and segmented, It's built for comfortable multiple person living with each room having its own little corner of the house... and sometimes bathroom. I think I counted 17 rooms. Check in was simply punching in a code at the door. The person doesn't greet you or anything; she's not even there...which was confusing at first, but I ultimately really liked it since check out is essentially just leaving the key to your room. The furniture is modern although the house itself is a bit run down. It had great beds and great community spaces with breakfast supplies in the refrigerator. It was warm. If you get lucky and no one else is staying there, it feels like a pretty big, nicely furnished house in central Cambridge all to yourself (which was nice). I give it four instead of five stars just because of the price, but I'm a bit stingy when it comes to lodging.

A little pricey perhaps, and the shower wasnt getting hot water (but tough). But I slept well, the place was clean and comfortable, and that was what was important. Lugging a heavy suitcase up two flights of narrow, steep stairs was fun (not) but still, would possibly stay again should the opportunity arise.

Our room was on the first floor and had no screen on the window. The room was hot and stuffy and we couldn't leave the window open as it had no screen and was right on the sidewalk. When I opened the front door to get some air, we received a chastising telephone call. Apparently, the invisible staff monitored the camera; they were never seen in person.||||As elders, the bathroom on our floor was important. But there was no shower or tub. The half bath did not appear to have been cleaned during our four day stay.||||Two lights were burnt out in our room and two of the three lights in the TV room were broken.||||The kitchen was dirty. The frig and stove especially so. Neither||Were cleaned during our stay. The dishes were few and shabby. The breakfast food was eggs, white bread and really bad coffee. Fruit appeared, and quickly disappeared, twice during our four day stay.||||It's a shame because it appears someone made a good effort to paint, decorate and furnish the house. It's the maintenance and cleaning that haven't been provided.||||Despite it's relatively inexpensive price, I would not stay...
