After reading very positive reviews by our local food critic (Philadelphia) I decided to try this place for my 65th birthday celebration with a few friends. There were 7 of us coming from Philadelphia and suburbs. LGBTQ and straight.
First, you’d be hard pressed to find a more welcoming environment. Carla, co-owner, went out of her way, to greet us and make us feel comfortable. She is warm and friendly with an infectious smile. In response to our questions she gave us a bit of her personal history and of the restaurant. Then patiently answered our many questions about the menu.
After much deliberation we settled on 2 pizzas for sharing (chicken mole and biria) and enchiladas, shrimp tacos, shrimp burrito, alambre and the coctel. Also two large pitchers of aqua Fresca (watermelon and hibiscus).
Reports from all diners were extremely positive with highlights for the pizzas (almost too good and filled our stomachs), alambre, aqua fresca and shrimp tacos.
At the end of dinner, Carla brought out a plate of warm churros with a sparkler for my birthday. A classy touch.
They serve brunch and will come back to...
Read moreThe owners have lived and worked throughout Phily, their education and experience of culinary culture along with their very sophisticated pallet has been brought to life in this unmatched culinary gem of Mexican Cuisine in the Camden area. I may be a tad bias as the owners are my direct family, but don’t just take my word for it, they’ve had plenty of press for what the restaurant represents in the growing city of Camden. Living in such close proximity to these great cooks has ruined my experience towards subpar food, making me very picky towards the food I eat and the experience I’m getting from a restaurant, as we all should (to an extent). They set my standards high, and have exceeded the ones set by other Mexican businesses before them. I’m sure you won’t regret indulging in whatever treat they have in store for you here. Don’t be afraid to give them a chance their target audience is broader than one would expect being a Mexican...
Read moreA gift to the area scene, La Ingrata is excellent. The tacos al pastor were probably the best we’ve ever had and the tacos cecina—on special the night we went—were delicious. The tortillas are homemade and I would have been happy to eat a few hot off the plancha all on their own. The guacamole, made to order, was great. Plenty to share, it was fresh and citrusy with a hint of a kick. Good on one of their crunchy homemade chips but even better heaped onto our tacos. We finished with the homemade concha and ice cream which was the perfect way to end our first, small, meal at this wonderful restaurant. Because we went late and on a weekday we had the pleasure of chatting with the husband and wife team behind the great food, Carla and Ernesto. Their passion, creativity, knowledge, and love for their work and community is obvious. We had a truly wonderful experience and cannot wait to go back—there is lots more to...
