El Maguey — Restaurant in Cameron

I gave it 2 stars because the food is good but my experience today was not good at all! 1/25/2023 1:00 p.m. On Monday I visited this place with one of my workers. We were attended by a tall, strong boy with long hair who was very friendly and excellent service, but today I decided to repeat the place since I liked it a lot, but we were received by the person who receives the payments, he did not show up. He realizes that I was looking at him but he began to make gestures as if expressing annoyance because we had a little mud on our boots when outside it was all wet and full of snow! Later we sat at the table and from afar I saw his bloody annoyed face and watching us (he thought I didn't notice) after going over to ask what we want to drink I tell him 3 cokes and I can't tell him and I want to. ... and he leaves without asking me what he wanted to order !!! like ignoring us!! My workers were already embarrassed, they felt discriminated against for having dirty the floor a bit and wearing work clothes! then another boy came over to take our order very gently, the food arrived, everything was fine, he didn't even take half of my food and the young man appeared with the bill!!!! Without me having asked for it before, I wanted to order something else and without asking for the bill, he brought it to the table. They made me feel like I wanted to leave without paying or something like that! I was surprised and I told the boy ok but I want 3 tickets to which he returned with the ticket he had and gives it to the unpleasant person who received us and from afar I saw how his damn face complained that why We asked for 3 tickets and he does not hide this subject or thinks that one is not observing. In short, they take us the 3 tickets, we pay and leave a tip. I hope that this tip was not taken by this person! And I want to tell you that each client that enters through that door has to be treated equally with a good attitude and helpful because one is not only going to eat, they also want good service and I hope they move this guy from this place because he made me feel bad to my workers and what I experienced today did not seem pleasant at all, we all deserve respect, it does not matter how you view luscas color etc !!!! Went there about 2 weeks ago and had a terrible experience. The place wasn't even that busy and stood at the door for awhile waiting to be seated. Finally when we did get seated our waiter was terrible. Couldn't speak English at all. Had to explain to him 3 times about what I wanted. Took forever getting our drinks. Then finally when our food arrived by another server it wasn't right instead of saying "I'll fix this for you" or "sorry about that" the other server just took the wrong food and gave it to another table. Then the same sever came back with another plate of food which was wrong again and continued to try to give to us. Finally he came back with the right food. The only problem was my grandmother ordered a tostada instead of a taco and the other server said the kitchen must made a mistake and said sorry. Didn't even try to fix it. Finally our waiter came back after our meal was half gone. My grandmother asked where the avocado slices was that was suppose to come on with her tostada when he came back he gave her guacamole and she told that she wanted avocado slices not guacamole but he didn't understand that. We sat there waiting for our bill for awhile, he never came to refill our drinks. To top it off he charged us for guacamole when we didn't ask for it then my friends food was on special and he charged her regular price when it was on special. Then wanted to argue with us about the guacamole. DO Not recommend. Will not being coming...

I travel a lot for work, so I have to rely on reviews to help me find the better places to eat. This place had good reviews. WHY? This place was awful. I ordered a taco, enchilada, rice, and beans. The ground beef was bland no flavor (browned hamburger), the rice was white rice with some tomato paste cooked into it, and the beans were runny. The chicken in the enchilada was okay, but not enough to save this meal.

On top of the poor food, the service was equally bad, The first gentlemen we encountered seemed inconvenienced. He grabbed some menus threw them on the table and walked away. The waitress was reasonable nothing excessive, but she did bring out the food and refill my drink once. As we were leaving we were standing at the register as another man was just standing there joking with someone else, and didn't even acknowledge us as he rang up our order.

I am guessing that this is the only Mexican restaurant in town, which is probably why the good reviews, get out a little bit and you know this is not good. If you are passing through town...
