When faced with the possibility of eating Asian for the fourth time this week, I remembered that there’s more food in Canyon than just curry and Pad Thai. I know. It’s crazy that in West Texas the Asian establishments could outnumber the Mexican 4-2, but it’s true. And it was also true I wanted…no, needed…something else. So my daughter and I walked from our university offices down the street a little farther to Pepito’s, a place we had not patronized in a while. We were in for a pleasant lunch, the crowd reassuring us that we had indeed chosen wisely. I ordered my typical veggie fajitas, while daughter went with the Cancun, a combo plate which for her featured a beef taco and chicken enchilada. I chose a Negra Modelo as the perfect quaff, something I could not have done the last time I was here. Um…that would be nearly 10 years ago, when Canyon voted itself kind of wet. And we were wowed with our entrees. My fajitas were far more than the usual ones I have had elsewhere, lucky to get some grilled green peppers, onions, and mushrooms on a plate. In addition to those staples, mine featured yellow squash, green squash, red pepper, tomatoes, and grilled corn as well, making for a far more hearty serving. They were good by themselves, but even better in a warm tortilla. Daughter found her lunch to be equally satisfying, the creamy sauce shrouding the enchilada particularly delectable. I didn’t hear a peep out of her, so I know it was good. We’ll be back. I’ll make sure it won’t be so long next time.

Firstly, the food was great and would recommend the place simply off that. However what caught my attention was the owner's pride in up-keeping the restaurants cleanliness. In saying that, he showed how he has kept his kitchen for the passed 30 years and I was so impressed I felt the need to share it in this review. If you are one to appreciate hygiene in where you choose to eat you will feel comfortable here, especially considering the current conditions during the pandemic these precautions can go a long way. It is a great place ran by a great owner and I would recommend it to anyone.

Service and atmosphere is nice only problem is the food. The main dishes were good, but the water and lemonade did NOT taste good, it was like bleach? Or something? Maybe tap water. Also the vegetables I got looked like they were old, and the rice was definitely old. But the chips, queso, and salsa were good. Edit: found out that all the water in this town tastes like something is off, but I ate again and the food was pretty good all things considered.

Update: Turns out the whole family are criminals. Pops runs over teens drunk driving & son kills baby momma running her over while drunk. Not a place anyone should go....ever.

Unfortunately, this wasn't the best experience. First, we didn't know if we should seat ourselves or be seated as there were no signs to indicate which was required, and no hostess to greet us. We seated ourselves... We were quickly greeted after we sat ourselves and offered a menu and drinks. No real issues. After the initial issue of whether to take a table or wait to be seated, we were given a menu and asked for our drinks. Standard. After being served, I asked for popular menu items as I've never eaten here aside from take-out. I saw jalapenos in the guacamole and was skeptical. I inquired with the waitress and was reassured. We elected for queso instead but we disappointed. The waitress brought us a free portion of guacamole, which was awesome and not hot at all! Unfortunately the queso was a bit gritty and seemed as if it was made a lot earlier in the day. This was confirmed by the waitress when she said that most items on the menu are cooked in the morning. I'm not sure how they earned their 5+ year streak of "best food in canyon" or something similar with these practices. I'm not someone to complain, and I didn't complain at the time. I'm sure the owners will see this review and hopefully go back, or change the standards of their food. This is the 3rd time I've been disappointed. I honestly feel like this could be a great restaurant but they seem more concerned with selling their food in trucks than giving great food at their...

WOW!!! My husband and I eat here at least twice a week sometimes three. The owners Jose (Joe) a ..Esmeralda treat us like family as does their staff…Ulise, Ricky, Ge, Brittany, and the rest of them. Now let me tell ya about the food, hands down the best I have ever had. We go to Cozumel and can’t wait to come home to go to Pepito‘s. I’ve had everything on the menu at least twice but I do have my favorites… fried chili relleno stuffed with carne ge sada, Don Pepe burrito, fries with carne ge sada and queso…etc…Hubby is on his 150+ Consecutive times of taquitos el Capone (street tacos). We will never stop eating here. Please never leave us and our great little community of Canyon Texas. We all...
