New England Mooring,SE 16th Pl., Cape Coral, Fl. Here is my 2 cents on the food and chatter. I order a appetizer of onion rings & the Fisherman Platter. WOW what a big mistake!!! TOO much food. TOO Delicious to not eat or attempt to eat it all. The onions are hand cut and fried to perfection. The Fisherman Platter is a large platter with a bit of everything. Perfect if you cannot decide what you want. My only issue is the tartar sauce. They make their own and I hate it. I love the free sampling and the service has been on the ball. A throw back to a floridian 1970 period. Fun and tacky looking...A good place to be. August 2017 New England Mooring, SE 16th Place, Cape Coral, Fl. Here is my 2 cents on the food and chatter. Chatter, I have been here many times. ( unfortunately not open for lunch , I would be here more often)...They have yet to disappoint me. This time around , I am here with my wifey. A new thing here is the Echo. The modern day version of the juke box. But you pay no money and speak of the singer you want to hear.......In a place that is in a time warp for the 70's Floridians. The food and extras they give me, We share fried zucchini plus given some fried garlic bread, excellent. I had a special of shark and angel hair pasta with garlic sauce. My wife the Trio, shrimp, grilled scallops and Maryland crab cakes . As always they met and exceeded my expectations. Of course the Irish cannoli's and free Amaretto drinks. A wonderful dessert drink. Two things were substandard, the cole slaw, no big whoop plus the AC was lacking. Though a fan was directed my way. Overall outstanding service and food. A must try place. Well if you need a break from everyday type eatery & wish a little oddball fun...come here. This is the old style kitschy Florida vibe restaurant. Fun for kids, parents . One and all. This Moorings is hidden from view off a main drag in The Cape. It was surprising to me as it was only a 10 minute ride from my house. I was pointed and lured here by a gift certificate. Remember I am a frugal diner.. Enough chit chat we are here for the food. As most seafood places are a bit high in prices this is no exception. BUT. They made up by dropping off samples of various things. From fish to dessert with a amaretto drink. It was WONDERFUL.. I was hungry so I got the Onion ring appetizer. Hand cut, breaded and fried so tasty. I then went out of my comfort zone and order Scrod with a mango Salsa. I had no idea what scrod was but it was good. Fried and golden brown on outside moist & delicate on the inside. The salsa was tangy and sweet.. I do not like mango per se. This was good.. Now more chit chat. The TV's were playing video from music shows 20+ years gone by. The table were such that when its crowded you will be sharing them with strangers. The decorations were Floridian tacky and fun of by gone days. Over all a great experience with food and frolic.

Back in November, I received a Facebook message from Al inviting me to enjoy a birthday dinner on him and the restaurant. Unfortunately my work schedule didn't allow this to come to fruition until this past weekend. After what my girlfriend and I experienced with Al and The Moorings, it was so worth the wait and I truly had no issue paying for my dinner. This is a hidden gem in our part of Cape Coral! With Al playing the part of host, server, and bartender for each and every table that night, he was nothing short of genuine and so welcoming. From the Shrimp Margarita (that I didn't know was a drink until noticing the 2 straws, to the seafood platter that Al helped me assemble...Scrod, Sea Bass, Shrimp, Scallops, and every seafood item beginning with "S" was delicious. The complimentary CON O LY was the perfect ending to this memorable meal. Being in such an intimate setting reminded me of having dinner at a life long friends house, and that's exactly how you are treated after walking in the front door. Oh, and by the way Al....even though we'll be back many times this year, I'm taking you up on that birthday dinner in November!!!

Cannot say enough about this restaurant. It may not look like much from the outside (small, with many colored lights), but the food is delectable... every single bite! And it isn't just the wonderful food. John, the waiter, is right there with everything. The owner, Al, a Boston native, is friendly, very generous with the portions, and even gives free samples (HUGE samples!). Al visits each table to talk with the patrons and tell a few stories. We went in for a late dinner and were lucky enough to have Al sit with us, and the food kept coming... food we had not even ordered! Al would say, "We need to get rid if it... we're cleaning out the kitchen." Ha! If only we had Al and his very special restaurant at home. When we get back to Cape Coral, we will definitely stop again. It's a very, very special place!

well... I bought a groupon and was excited because I saw good reviews at first but now looking back there are way more bad reviews and I can understand why.

the décor was really bad. it needs to be updated. the patio area smells like rotting fruit or something and should be pressure washed. it looks like someone's back yard that hasn't been clean in a while. my husband and I took my sister and her husband there because my sister always treats us to things so we wanted to return the favor and were very embarrassed. their salad bar thing was not impressive, It didn't really have anything and the lettuce was turning brown all over. the waitress did bring us a small taste tester plate and we tried a couple things. I asked her what one item was and she said "chicken", I ate it and said it doesn't taste like chicken and she said "its actually gator tail but if I told you that then you wouldn't have tried it". I was a little upset that she had to lie to me like I was a child to make my eat something. I never tried gator before but that really wasn't the way I would have liked to try it.

we all ordered our food and when we got our food we could not believe the small portion sizes. my brother in law got a "stuffed salmon" it was just a small piece of salmon laying on top of some stuff. it was the size of a cell phone. and he had a small cup of brown rice that he said tasted very badly and was watery, my sister had very burnt crab cakes that she tried to smile through because she could tell I was so embarrassed to have brought them there. my husband had a steak dinner and I had some kind of fisherman's platter. my husbands steak was smaller than 6oz ( I know because we eat out a lot and he always gets steak so he is pretty familiar, that and he is a cook himself.) and his side dish was about the same. my food was very bland and very hard from being overly deep fried.

after eating over $80.00 worth of food (because the groupon couldn't even cover their prices) and a salad bar buffet we were all still hungry. I believe the good reviews are friends/family of the owner just as the other woman in a previous review suspects because there is no way anyone would want to spend so much money and get nothing on their plates. the people next to us even had small portions because we were looking so its not just us. also I notice a lot of reviews saying that this place is a "hidden gem" why would so many people use this same term???

IF YOU DONT BELIEVE THE BAD REVIEWS THEN JUST GO FOR YOURSELF AND SEE. BUT PLEASE POST BECAUSE HOPEFULLY ENOUGH PEOPLE WILL SEE AND HAVE COMMON SENSE TO NOT WASTE THEIR HARD EARNED MONEY HERE! AND IF YOU HAVE GONE THERE AND DIDNT LIKE IT PLEASE POST WHAT HAPPENED BECAUSE YOU WOULD ACTUALLY BE DOING ALOT OF...

Being one to look at reviews online, we seemed very excited to go try a “low-key” meal, something off the path, not too fancy. We arrived with high hopes and wondered immediately if it was even a restaurant since the lighting and outdoor decor looked like a rundown trailer park. Walking up, everybody staring, we seen a small pond which appears to of never been cleaned. We didn’t know if we were to seat ourself or what, searching for a worker we were pointed to an outdoor seat with an “amazing” scenery of a large flatscreen tv and a bug zapper above our heads. The tables were still very dirty and every chair seemed to of been picked up from various dumpsters around the city. The smell pushed out of the main building from the carpeting and odd decor. We kept our hopes up. Ordered appetizers, drinks, and “chowdah.” The chowdah wasn’t even close, as it was basically thawed seafood mix from the local store, soaked in a sort of beef broth, disguised as something more. Our cokes came out of cans, and dirty dishes were scarcely taken from the table. We were served various disgusting (samplers?) plates of mushy fish or weird fries and peanut butter, half broken or undercooked. The only decent thing we had were the fried green tomatoes, and they were still presented poorly. We were left to guess that the random dropping off of weird complementary pieces of food were to make up for the terrible setting we were in. To top off this experience was the dessert we never ordered, which was drenched with whip cream in attempt to cover up the dread. My father and I wanted to simply wash our hands afterward, but the bathroom was a whole other problem. He went first, and then told me just to go in there and see the disaster. There were chairs in the bathroom, waiting for two stalls, one out of order, painted with naked mermaids caressing each other. The mirror was dirty and the paper towels were a soaked mess. The owner came out and talked to random tables and extended their stay, so we asked for our bill before he came to us. For near $100, we had terrible “scod” and just a terrible meal/experience. Do not waste your money or your time. There are plenty of better restaurants in the area, which may...
