Let's Get right to it, upon entering this establishment you will notice a large but not to large center piece tank with juvenile gators and a sign that says to seat yourself which I love that because I prefer window and bar seats instead of a tabletop plus bonus, I can sit closer to the gators. I asked some questions about them and was told they help to raise them and when they reach a certain size they are removed and replaced with smaller gators so right off the top, I love what that represents. I find gators to be a very majestic misunderstood creature.
After which I was greeted by Daniel with a smile and positive presence, I had forgotten my reading glasses, so I asked for recommendation's. Daniel asked if I was allergic to anything which I am shellfish, so I went with the Gator bites they were served with swamp sauce which has a sweet yet zesty flavor, to drink I had a glass of the daily brewed sweet tea and i will say it was one of the many highlights of my meal some sweet teas have a flavor on the back end of your pallet which taste almost like a mold theirs did not it had full body with just the right amount of sugar and a lemon which it was good with and without. If you know sweet tea you know you only add lemon if it tastes like it had been brewed at too hot of a temp or the tea sat in it too long definitely not the case here. Now to the main dish lord help me, where do I begin, the burger was more than enough for me it had truffle mayo which I don't like truffle and gave it a shot anyway which i am guessing it really matters how you use it and what you pair it with. My burger was a perfect pink inside which is how I asked as well as it was juicy the bun was fresh honestly cannot find anything at all wrong with my burger at all. and that's not all the fries I don't know what they do but definitely keep doing it although served with their ketchup i didn't even touch it they were a golden crisp on the outside and a perfect texture on the inside. everything came out hot and I give it to them the presentation was very southern Florida! I love the wood platters with our state branded in it I mean come on they really paid attention to the littlest detail while designing this place.
Finally, I believe everyone should embark on this experience, I say experience because that is what it is from the live gators to the staff the food, all the way down to the platter your burger comes out on. Also take the time to watch the tv's over the bar and get the feel for the people who own the bar, there is a slide show of all their Florida adventures, this gave it the ultimate touch of a wholesome hometown feel per say an inside look as to who you're...
Read moreGreat Food, Fun to Look Around A group of us were planning to go out somewhere and we heard about this new burger place opening on Del Prado in Cape Coral so we gave it a try. They were a little hard to find as they didn’t have a large sign up yet and are located at the end of a strip mall, but we got there. The restaurant is not real wide, but is long. Some tables up front and down the left side to the rear. The bar area, some eat at counter space and kitchen are to the right. As soon as you walk in you’ll see a jumbo aquarium with baby aligators. (Relax, they are here under license as part of a save the gator program. All cleared with Florida Fish and Game.) There are gator decorations all over and the walls have many old southwest Florida photos. No tap beers at our visit, but they did have some crafts in cans. Not sure how I discovered it, but they have a really cool Pabst Blue Ribbon deal - $2 for a 16 ounce can, served in a brown paper bag. What fun! We ordered a few starters. Ya Heard Me Fries ($16) were spectacular, but I don’t think they are available any more. Cajun seasoned fries topped with an abundant amount of blue crab meat, drizzled with a special sauce and some shaved pecorino cheese and scallions. THE BOMB!! I think we also got some Gator Bites and not sure if they are still on the menu. We also tried the Drunken Shrimp ($16). Six Key West jumbo shrimp deep fried with a very delicate tempura style batter, topped with some secret sauce. Great! My wife got the Del Boca Vista Birria Grilled Cheese ($16). A large toasted garlic bread grilled cheese sandwich with birria-braised beef, mozerella cheese, chopped onions and cilantro served with a side of consome for dipping. She loved it! One of our diners had the Greens as a side. Roasted whole garlic cloves, kale, brussels sprouts and maybe more, with bacon, a dressing and cheese. Outstanding! I had the Swamp Stopper burger ($18) with Mac and Cheese as a side. These are all of ½ pound of great tasting Florida beef. Perfectly grilled to my requested medium rare, topped with thick cut bacon, lots of American cheese and BBQ sauce. The Mac and Cheese is special. No way could I finish, especially after the appetizers so I had lunch the next day. As luck would have it, Louis?, one of the owners, stopped in and asked about our meal, what we liked, what we didn’t, and thanked us for the business. He did say that they are changing the menu as they see what sells and doesn’t. A very personable guy with some good ideas. We’re going...
Read moreStraight off the bat was greeted with a clean and friendly atmosphere. Daniel was quick to get us menues and set us up with their personal recommendations alongside accommodations for our allergies.
Breaking down the meal, started off with the gator bites of course. Came out quick, hot, and extra crispy. Meat was juicy and tender and the sauce; 'swamp'sauce was a great creamy yet surprisingly tangy pair that complimented the bites well. Sweet tea was definately a must try, definately on the sweeter side for me, but half cut with lemon really hit the spot. Especially considering its fresh brewed daily.
Burger came out and first thing I noted was the great display. Definately heed the warning about the knife in the burger LOL. Fries came out overstuffed to the brim and crispy, absolutely no complaints about them. I will note they aren't heavily salted, which I prefer. As for the Burger, I ordered the McGregor. Absolutely divine is all I have to say. Came out pink and juicy, great portion of sauce and the cheese they paired it with worked amazingly well with the meat. Size wise this was absolutely perfect, with plenty extra for later.
Finally I couldn't resist trying one of their milkshakes. Unfortunately the cookie dough one had sold fresh out, so I went with the next best thing. That being their fruity pebbles milkshake. Although skeptical it worked surprisingly well. Not too sweet, and the size is just right. I will note if you are expecting a mc donalds grade sweetness you won't be finding that. The milkshakes are rich and creamy, with a subtle sweet kick coming from the pebbles.
Overall atmosphere was a solid 10/10, will most definately be coming back to try the full menu. And a huge thanks to Daniel for making our experience super enjoyable for our...
