Sam's Cafe — Restaurant in Carbondale

I ordered the Italian beef and I'm from Chicago lived there for 30 years literally ate almost exclusively Italian beefs and pizza. After eating what amounts to maybe several thousand Italian beefs I would assume that I kind of know what I'm talking about. The Italian beef I purchased was rubbery old and chewy. There was jalapenos instead of giardiniera and for some odd reason there's 4 slices of American cheese on it. For anyone who's ever been to Chicago I think its pretty common sense and obvious that we do not put American cheese on...

I normally like Sam's food. The gyros are really good. Tonight was the exception. I ordered a chef salad off of the menu. What I got I believe my boyfriend said they called a club salad. Trash is what I called it. Pile of lettuce the very few tomatoes some big slices of mushroom, chicken strips, which I don't like on any salad, and jalapeno slices?! Not even close to a chef salad. Ruined my whole appetite for the night. Can anyone in this entire town not make a simple chef salad??? And if it's not going to be served get it off...

My friends and I were hungry asf but it was past midnight so we looked up if there was anywhere that was still open and this place popped up. I drove us there and between us we got a grilled cheese, a burger, and an order of chili cheese fries. We demolished the food in less than 10 minutes and I am intending on going back very soon. I am not particularly a fan of standing outside, however the service was so quick and the food was so good it makes up for it. This place doesn't deserve any less than 5 stars...
