The University Museum — Attraction in Carbondale

What a very special place to visit here in Carbondale!! It's the entire building of fanner that is at first awesome and inspiring.then the actual art inside of the place. From time to time I like to take a visit to the museum and stay for a few hours relaxing and just taking it all in. The building of fanner is almost a world wonder.the amount of education and learning is a gift from the universe!!!!Great place for alone time or for being in a room full of people. This is a great museum of primarily southern Illinois history. Not an overly large space but the creative and inspired work of curated displays means that this museum does not suffer from cramped surroundings due to trying to display too much of their collections. If you will be visiting check out the North hall's Swedlund photography including pics from the region. They are incredible. Artwork from the Depression era can be found in the South hall. I really enjoyed some of the exhibits. Some of the displays were not well marked, so I was guessing as to what they were. Also the descriptions on the wall are rather dated, with a little too much text (and tiny fonts). But overall we enjoyed ourselves. I do wish the museum hours were less restrictive.
