I think there is a potential for 5 stars, but our experience, while not the worst, was not the best either. Service was slow even though when we got there, there was a 6 top that was waiting for others and was waiting to order, and one other 4 top besides ours. There was 6 people at the bar, but the bartender was there for them. Once we did get service, our waitress was very kind. We were able to put in our drink orders and food together. We got the meatballs and crostini, the loaded baked potato with pulled pork, and 2 orders of chicken fingers for our kids. The meatballs came out piping hot and had excellent flavor. My loaded baked potato was hard, and everything on it was freezing cold, including the pulled pork upon being brought out to our table. Both of our kids' chicken fingers seemed like they were just cooked in the microwave instead of being baked or deep-fried because the breading was soggy. Overall, the idea and the flavors were there, but there were just a few things that missed the mark and could use improved upon. I did let our waitress know about potato and asked her to make the chef aware. Another thing is, they didn't have any salt or pepper on the table, nor were we asked if we'd like refills on any of our drinks. I must say though, the ambiance was wonderful, and I loved that they had a whole game section and blackboard for kids to play. It makes for a very inviting, family friendly atmosphere. I would absolutely go back if were...

While in Carlisle for work, I came upon this local dive bar. This place has ample parking upfront, wheelchair accessible entrance via a ramp. Be warned, though, the lot is gravel. Once inside, be ready to indulge in some award winning beers! There are, on any given night, 12 to 15 original brews on tap. Feel free to ask for a sample, a flight to sample a few at a time, or a full size glass. All their beers have a great taste, great flavor, color, etc. Their German Weis is my favorite - though they have a range of beers, including lagers, wheat, sours, IPA, kosch, stouts, and whatever seasonal stuff might be up. You can take your favorite beer to go. You can find some of their more popular beers canned and for sale in the refrigerators next to the bar. If you get 4, you save $5!

Oh yeah, there's food. They have an extensive kitchen selection. I had The Lincoln - their take on the reuben. For dessert, I had their (huge) pretzel with Nutella...

Bright and welcoming brewpub with a good selection of beer, varied food selection, and a nice open layout inside along with some outdoor seating near a fire pit. Eclectic menu of German-style food, including a create-your-own sausage combo. The curry sausage was a favorite as well as the very plump and snappy brats. As far as beers go, tried the Desperate Measures Red IPA, the Kinky Thompson Pale Ale, and the Munich-Style Dunkel 2022. The Desperate Measures IPA had some slightly fruity notes with the smallest hint of a tropical taste that was nice and the Dunkel had great toasty flavor but not overpowering or too heavy. The Kinky Thompson was a solid pale ale. There's a nice menu for kids, along with a large chalkboard and board games for entertainment. Make Desperate Times a stop when you're in Carlisle, or plan a special trip! Grab some swag (t-shirts, koozies, pint glasses, magnets) while...

My husband and I wanted to go somewhere new for us here in Carlisle and decided to try Desperate Times as the menu sounded good and cider was advertised. We arrived around 7:40pm for a late dinner. We got a great table in the corner by the window. Our server was friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable of the menu. We ordered the original cider & the cranberry cider to try. They were okay, but both had an aftertaste of beer. I expected more of an apple base to them. That was a bit disappointing for us. We were very impressed with the German fair on the menu and both ordered a Paddy Wagon. The different sausages were excellent! The sauerkraut and potato salad were delicious. I only wish we got bigger portions! Big fans of the German mustard. Could have used more of that as well. Highly recommend the food here! Will have to try different drinks next time. We look forward to returning.

Had a fantastic dining experience at a nice local brew pub and German eatery. Deb was both the bartender and my server and she was very friendly and offered me the ability to taste some of the beers I was interested in. I selected the Swarzbier and Law Breaker Oatmeal Stout. I personally selected the Lawbreaker because I don’t like hoppy beers. The beer paired nicely with the sausage selection I opted for. They have a selection of three sausage platter that was fantastic. The natural casing gave each a nice snap. The bonus unexpected was the offer for the curry ketchup. Each was unique and extremely tasty. My only negative was the sauerkraut was soggy and not crisp. It was a nice flavored Bavarian style kraut too. The other bonus was the brochen. I would definitely go back when visiting Carlisle.
