El Rodeo Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Carmel

If you are looking for a place that can get all of your orders wrong and serves awful food, then look no further, this is the place for you. Just visited this lovely location and having three of the four of our orders made incorrectly somehow and then also being argued with by the server. We realized, this was no ordinary restaurant. This was actually the worst restaurant we had ever been to. Even though the server got all of our orders wrong somehow, he did seem to feel bad about what was happening. Now it’s not the end of the world to have the wrong food brought out, all the wrong food, and then argue about what we ordered. The thing is, the food was actually quite bad. The sign says authentic Mexican food. This food is an insult to Mexican food, authentic or not. So, we decided since the server didn’t really offer any sort of anything to make up for all the confusion, and the food was gross, we tried talking to the manager when we settled up our $90 for 4 mass confusion meal. Just to see if they would possibly take care of anything on the bill as a way of convincing us to ever think of eating there again, or really just trying to find out if they know anything whatsoever about how restaurants are supposed to work, or anything service based. Boy, were we just completely blown away by how above and beyond the manager went to try and salvage the situation. Except nope she did absolutely nothing. She said well we fixed all your orders didn’t we. We fixed all 3 out of the 4 orders that we made incorrectly. Which they actually didn’t do. We’ve honestly never had this bad of an experience at any restaurant. The real sad part is, we had just come from a funeral home where my mother was just cremated. We wanted to go eat just to have some time together after dealing with the most terrible thing you can experience. My mom is Mexican. 100%. We randomly chose this place because of that. For her. I live in Chicago now but was visiting family in Carmel and we were having a homemade Mexican feast at their home. My kids love Mexican rice, I’ve never been able to successfully make it at home and I remembered El Rodeo’s shrimp tacos from back in the day, they were delicious. So I called and placed a take out order late afternoon for several orders of rice and an order of shrimp tacos. Kinda skimpy portions of rice but tasted fine. We had dinner plans Saturday as well and headed back to Chicago Sunday, brought tacos back but when I unwrapped the foil packets that evening they were flour tortillas with chopped steak 😔 no toppings and certainly no shrimp. Called and the lady tried to make me feel silly for calling two day later, which I know is unusual but they were wrapped up, wasn’t planning to eat right away anyway, and I paid for shrimp tacos I didn’t get so I thought they should refund the item, that’s all. She told me to bring the steak tacos in which I couldn’t do from Chicago. So she told me to call the manager the next day, I did, knowing full well they wouldn’t do anything, and they didn’t. Waiter was very rude. Argued with me over how something was worded on their menu as soon as I sat down. I finally agreed and just said ok, because he was not listening to anything I was saying. I ordered a margarita on the rocks. It came frozen, but I didnt wanna send it back and drank it anyway. Food took a long time. We get our food and my friend had an issue with what she ordered. She told the waiter, and he again got rude and just said I will go get the manager. This was a very simple issue that did not need a manager, just someone with a little respect and basic communication skills. So, the manager walks by, we had to wave him down, and he was rude as well. Customers and accuracy of orders clearly don't mean anything in this place. Ruined my experience and I will not be back. My friend was a regular here and had a negative experience the past few times she went with similar issues. She also will not be returning.
