I recently visited a local Subway store with my son, eager to enjoy a quick meal thanks to their ongoing $6.99 footlong offer. Unfortunately, what should have been a simple and pleasant experience turned into an uncomfortable and frustrating ordeal.
Upon entering, we were greeted (or rather, ignored) by a short Mexican employee who immediately appeared displeased with our presence. We placed an online order for $6.99 footlong, which, considering the frequent emails and notifications Subway sends promoting the offer, seemed like a normal request. I casually mentioned that I would like my patty toasted before he started preparing the sandwich. However, his response was anything but friendly. In a dismissive tone, he snapped, “I know what to do, you don’t have to stand here, and I’ll let you know when it’s done.” His rude attitude was completely uncalled for, especially when all I had done was make a simple request about how I wanted my sub prepared.
This wasn’t the first time I had encountered issues with this particular employee. I’ve had problems with him before, as he consistently seems unhappy and takes little care in preparing the subs. But I let it slide, hoping things might improve.
While he continued to prepare my sandwich, another employee, an Indian gentleman who had come out from the backroom, was at least polite and told me to wait for a few minutes. His tone was respectful, and he made an effort to acknowledge me while my sub was being prepared. Unfortunately, when the Mexican employee finally completed my order, the quality of the sandwich was just as disappointing as his attitude. The sub was hastily prepared, with an alarming lack of vegetables, and it had no sauce whatsoever. Honestly, it looked like something thrown together in a rush, not the fresh, custom-made sandwich I’ve come to expect from Subway.
Thinking that perhaps it was a mistake, I ordered a veggie patty sub as well, expecting it to be done with a bit more care. But instead of any improvement, it was more of the same—poorly assembled with sparse veggies, no sauce, and a generally unappealing presentation. When I mentioned there was another order for Veggie Patty Sandwich. His reaction? He became visibly upset and started venting to the other Indian employee about how we were trying to get another $6.99 veggie patty sub. I could clearly hear him complaining, making disparaging remarks about us, and acting as though we were somehow in the wrong for simply ordering what was available to all customers.
I was absolutely appalled by his unprofessional behavior, and so was my son, who noticed how rude the employee was. At one point, he even asked me why the worker was being so mean. It was incredibly awkward and uncomfortable to be treated this way, especially in front of my child.
As we sat down to eat, things only got worse. My son, after trying just a couple of bites, commented that it was the worst Subway he had ever eaten. He was right. The sub was poorly made, lacking flavor, and simply not up to the usual standard of quality I’ve experienced at this location. Frankly, it didn’t even deserve to be called a Subway sandwich—it felt more like a "Shitway" sandwich.
This is not the experience I’ve had at this Subway before. Most of the staff here are friendly and attentive, and they’ve always prepared my subs well in the past. But this particular employee—let’s call him out for his lack of professionalism—is consistently rude and sloppy with his work. It's unfortunate that he’s part of this team, as he not only negatively impacts customer experience but also creates a toxic environment for those around him.
I understand that Subway is offering the $6.99 footlong deal, and if this short Mexican employee has an issue with that offer, perhaps he should reconsider working at a participating location. Subway encourages customers to take advantage of promotions, and there is no reason to treat someone poorly simply for...
Read morei went there for the first time to get a sandwitch for my daughter who was supposed to stay at school for Christmas performance. i asked for a foot long and when the worker asked me about the kind of cheese, i asked him to put a combination of two different types. when i was going to pay at the cashiers, the worker charged me for extra cheese. when i protested and explained that i did not ask for extra cheese and just asked for a mixture of cheeses, the worker started un wrapping the two halves and proceeded to take cheese slices out of the sandwitch. Do you want to buy your food from these kinds of...
Read more4 people in front of me and 10 people behind me at lunch time on a Thursday and there's one person making sandwiches and checking people out while I watch another staff member stay in the back writing labels for something. You would think that could wait so you can go help customers and your fellow co-worker get through a rush. I work in customer service and I would never ignore helping customers to continue doing busy work. This place needs better management. Of course the staff member who decided not to help customers is the same person that never says hi, smiles, looks at the customer or talks loud...
