Union Brewing Company — Restaurant in Carmel

My husband and I stopped by after a 9 mile bike ride to grab a beer. We ordered two beers at the bar and left a dollar tip but when I checked my bank account the next day the bartender had charged us $7 over the price of the beer. I am always careful to make sure my 1’s look like a 1 and not a 7 so someone doesn’t try to say it was a 7 (and the total clearly was the price of the beer plus $1). So my husband called the bar the next day and spoke with a manager, or possibly the owner, and asked him to look into it. He said he’d get back to him later that day but did not so my husband had to call back the next day. At that time the manager/owner apologized and said that the bartender thought it was a 7, not a 1. We spent about 2 minutes with the guy. Not sure why he thought he was so great to deserve a $7 tip on two beers. We clearly don’t believe that is the case and asked him to send us a picture of the receipt but he never did, however, he did refund us the $6. I know it did not look like a 7 and again the total clearly was the price plus $1. I just wonder how many unsuspecting people he has...

Union brewing is somewhat of a hidden gem.

They are a brewery that has 4 cask lines (no C02) and they cater to that. To me, this can take an IPA and make it just smooth. They also have 3 or 4 guest lines and some additional bottles.

They don't have food but are cool with bringing in others. Bartender will commonly have menus you can get delivery, or just walk next door to the Jamaican place and order something.

They have a nice secluded outdoor area, right off the monon trail that is great when nice out. Inside the bar has a very cool wood thing going on.

It's not overly clean. Walking in you can find the bartop sticky, but not much of a big deal honestly.

Bartenders are hit or miss. Some are amazing, some will be overly distracted "hanging out" and you have to think ahead like "Hey could I get another beer and then also close my...

Stopped by with my newborn and husband today after having dinner at a local joint only to be screamed at that it’s 21 and over only and to get out immediately. I got one didn’t see a sign and I may have missed it but I don’t think that warranted getting screamed at by the bartender. To the guy who screamed at us that he would lose his license, hopefully he loses his job for treating returning customers this way. If you’re a POC I would stay away from this brewery. We’ve been here a few times before and they have a tendency to treat us rudely but treat non POC patrons real kindly.
