I've only ordered the sushi here (twice). It's ok for American sushi. It is possible to get more traditional sushi, but you need to specify it on your order. The rolls are.... decent. I hate to see rolls with cream cheese in it (Alaska roll - an absolute travesty, in my opinion) or covered in a sauce that isn't needed (Spicy Tuna roll should have wasabi, not a chili sauce on it). If you order the regular sashimi, it's pretty good. If you order a roll, ask what else comes on it as the menu doesn't list the other ingredients.
The pork gyoza is tasty, but there isn't any chili oil or mirin to add to the sauce. I'll probably come back, but I doubt I'll order...
Read moreWe live nearby so we've ordered from Sakana Sushi several times before w/o issue and we were always pleased with the quality. However, today was a total disappointment! After placing the order my husband and I witnessed our server clipping his finger nails in the same area where the sushi is prepared. Therefore, we confronted the staff of 3 located in the area, which none of them even muttered a response except the server saying he was sorry. His actions were unsanitary and disgusting. It makes you wonder what else takes place where they prepare food and do they even wash their hands?...
Read moreBy far the best sushi restaurant I've been too. Living in the Hampton roads area I'm always on the prowl for good sushi and this place has blown me away. The absolute BEST cuts of yellowtail that just melts in your mouth with such absolute and rich flavor as well the variety in different rolls and sashimi is above and beyond.
For those of you not into sushi they also provide a nice wide variety of soups, salad, habachi dishes and Bento boxes. The staff are friendly and some haven even learned my name and can recognize me after only a few visits.
A must visit local...
