This was a very disappointing experience. I have been wanting to check this location out for a while as a local. I’m a longtime lover of coffee and a current barista, I know what I’m looking for in coffee. I asked the barista on shift questions about the drink I wanted to order, a standard iced mocha, and was given very condescending answers as if I was an idiot for asking. Making an iced mocha with drip coffee, milk and chocolate powder, already not how standard iced mochas are created. The chocolate powder wasn’t dissolved and left a gritty texture in every sip. The coffee was extremely burnt in flavor, and made for a really really disappointing experience. Not to mention it was $18 for the two drinks that were nearly undrinkable. Measurements in almost all standard coffee shops for hot and iced drinks are the same, the “larger ounce measurement” on the iced drinks that you’re paying for is really just room for ice. Out of every local coffee shop in Carson city, none of them have an up-charge for iced drinks except for Larry’s gourmet coffee. Maybe I just had the one off bad experience? But as a professional in the field I can definitively say that this is not how specialty drinks are created. For the exact same price you can go to any other specialty cafe downtown and receive a good experience and a great coffee. I payed a lot of money to wait 25+ minutes for the drink and to be condescended and extremely let down. Sadly, I...
Read morePretty weird. We love to try local businesses and support local. Our two kids wanted to get a coffee drink as we were driving past Larry’s was close so we wanted to try. My husband asked Larry about his drinks. Larry said he makes his own creamers… which is very interesting so we asked how he does this. He then explained very sarcastically that he “milks his own cows” we were still very confused about the answer. We ordered two drinks then realized the larges were $11. For an iced drink but the hot drinks were much less so in my mind why is an iced drink more when you get less because of the ice… anyhow. We asked to change the sizes to medium because we aren’t going to pay $22 for two drinks. I can appreciate high quality coffee and understand business is expensive to operate. However If your customers have questions it would be nice to get a real answer on the “handmade creamers” why the drinks are so overpriced. The experience was super awkward, confusing and frustrating. We appreciate that Larry was the owner and working but it seems the owner would answer questions not just tell us how well he does and give the drinks away for free. Basically told us he does so well he can just give the drinks for free. We were insisting that we wanted to pay. He wouldn’t let us. Won’t be back sadly The drinks weren’t anything to carry on about and the straws should be coffee straws not...
Read moreMe and my husband have been going to Larry’s since he first opened in Dayton about 4 years ago. When he first started, Larry had one size of coffee and my husband would buy 2 of them each day on his way to work. It’s been amazing watching Larry grow from that seemingly simple beginning to what he and his shop are now! I recommend Larry’s to all of our friends and family members, and they all agree, it’s the best coffee in town. Yes, his prices are a bit higher, however, for the quality of his coffee and the atmosphere, I am more than willing to pay that! You can taste the difference in quality.
Larry and his staff create an incredibly friendly atmosphere! They always ask how we are doing and have smiles on their faces. When I had gotten sick, but still wanted my fix of the best coffee house around, I went to Larry’s and asked him for a tea that would make me feel better, just no caffeine this time. I really should have asked what tea he uses because my sinuses cleared up pretty quickly! No medications I’ve taken have been able to do that! I typically order a medium Caramel Cinnamon White Chocolate Mocha, but my husband always lets Larry pick his drink. It’s never been a dud for him!
All in all, I am glad we found a local business to support and great coffee to share with the world! I can’t wait to see where Larry...
