The only thing better than the food here is the way you're valued. Johnny goes out of his way to make sure every aspect of your experience is outstanding. You can tell he really cares about his customers, his employees and best of all, his food.
That said, as a native NYC Italian, I'm tough to please when it comes to Italian food. Luckily my grandma isn't standing behind me to hear me say that Johnny's has the best penne alla vodka I've ever tasted or I'd get a smack to the back of the head. Hands down, no bull - best I've ever tasted, grandma's kitchen and every NYC restaurant included. He should jar the sauce and sell it.
Other than that, the pizzas by the slice are the closest you get to an NYC slice around here (I've tried them all). Ask for it well-done for the best taste. The other pastas are delicious as well, especially Katie's Cajun Pasta. The meatball sub is also one of the top three in Raleigh/Cary/Morrisville.
But most importantly, Johnny's means consistency. Too many times I find a great place and the next time I go, it's completely different - nope. You get the same quality every damn time here (I've been/ordered at least 10 times), and that's an amazing feat in today's cost-cutting-friendly environment.
Strange, I walked into a pizza shop for a slice of pizza and now every time I walk out (or get it delivered), I'm ordering everything else on the menu. That's how you know the place is good. Johnny's isn't just good - it's DAMN good. Try it for your taste buds and to support a local business that is run the way EVERY business should be run - with the customer experience put first. Thanks for opening...
Read moreI attended an event at Johnny's Pizza in Cary, NC today. I had not eaten at Johnny's Pizza before, so I was eager to try their food. Johnny's Pizza restaurant has a warm and welcoming vibe that makes you feel like family. The space within the restaurant is utilized well. It is not cramped nor too spaced out. It is just right. The staff greeted me with a smile, was professional, and welcoming.
I like pizza but it is not typically my go to food item because of the overly greasiness. Johnny's pizza was not very greasy at all. I was highly impressed by that. The dough was sufficiently thin, slices were large, and the flavor was fantastic. I don't eat pork or beef, so I had the cheese pizza. The flavor of the cheese pizza tasted original. After taking my first bite, I felt like I literally had a custom made pizza as it was not a familiar cheese pizza flavor/taste as from other pizza restaurants.
I also had the opportunity to try two flavors of their wings. They were both great! One tasted like honey barbecue, and the other more like a garlic Parmesan flavor. What I enjoyed most about these wings is that they were cooked properly. I prefer my wings to be adequately cooked and not soggy inside. These were done perfectly!
Another highlight of today's event, besides the camaraderie, the ambience, and the food, was that I got to meet Johnny, the owner, in person. Johnny was very personable and approachable. He was friendly and down to earth which I appreciated. He has a wonderful personality, and seemed very genuine.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit at Johnny's Pizza. I will definitely...
Read moreIt's time to move on from this establishment. Prices have gone up across the board at least 10%. I understand this year has been hard on small businesses, but Johnny is constantly bragging that he hasn't had to layoff any staff, and what all he does for various causes. That's great, but it's starting to feel like it's all on the backs of his customers who all just suffered through the same year and tried to prop him (and others) up in the process. Additionally every time I go into the Cary store, there's no one there, but there's always at least 3 kids behind the counter. I also take issue with his very own mask mandate, the only store in the area still enforcing it, especially since the last few times I've been in there, there's been at least one person "in back" with no mask on. This tells me he's afraid of getting "cancelled" again (he's been hacked - more than once - and the hacker has posted racially insensitive stuff on his FB page). Oh and speaking of getting hacked - we got 3 text messages at 4 a.m. last week which again blamed on someone else. Maybe technology isn't his thing??? At any rate - the pizza has gone way downhill here and as much as I like the food, won't be back when 4 dinners and NOTHING ELSE (no apps, no drinks) costs me almost $70. Oh - almost forgot! Johnny begs people to call in or use the Slice app. Hmmmm, mysterious $1 fee on the slice app. Wonder how long I've been paying that? ...
