Bowigens Beer Company combines creativity and craftsmanship in all the right ways. Founded by two friends from the east coast music scene, you can tell the people behind this place care about both beer and atmosphere.
It’s located in a small strip mall next to a pizza place and a fondue restaurant, but once you step inside, it feels like its own world. The space is dark and cozy, with natural light coming from one side, brick walls, wood floors, and a black ceiling. The overhead lights were off (thankfully), which gave it a warm, comfortable feel. It was decorated for Halloween when we visited.
I ordered the Bowtoberfest, a Marzen-style lager that had a toasty malt profile with subtle caramel notes and a crisp, dry finish. My wife went with the 407 Pils, their German-style pilsner that’s won several awards. It was clean, bright, and perfectly balanced, with a light floral hop bitterness.
The bartender was friendly and attentive. There’s a wall full of medals and awards which is proof that this place takes its beer seriously.
Their logo features a guitar, which fits perfectly with the music they play: a mix of nu metal and punk which I thought was unique. My Shazam picked up “From Me to U” by BABYMETAL & Poppy and “Rat A Tat” by Fall Out Boy featuring Courtney Love. Not your typical brewery playlist.
Bowigens has great beer and a relaxed atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy a pint, listen to some offbeat music, and play a game of cribbage....
Read moreOne of the newer craft offerings regionally, don't stray far because the team is coming up with some progressively strong offerings.
I've been following the growth of offerings locally. Year 1, they created a basic line up. Beers lacked complexity. Year 2 and beyond have seen more creativity. Their peanut butter offerings have always been well received albeit the recent bottles stout or the heifeweizen.
The room is comfortable, they are community engaged. They still are trying to create a brand. This past Saturday night there was no one there essentially. The omne Belgian pineapple is reasonable though bitey ending. The Rochelle is a balanced choice. The tiramisu was a unique flavorful offering. For a multi beer option go with the heifeweizen peanut butter.
I'm not a IPA fan, so I'll reserve commentary. Worth a gander and hope to see them grow in complexity/flavor depth of offerings seen in regional locations like Hourglass and consistent quality locations like Crooked Can.
To the brew team, need to get some entertainment there to draw a crowd...
Read moreWent here for The Office trivia night but was sorely let down. The host did not know enough about the show to host a trivia night about a topic that has a huge following. There was a whole round about song titles from the show that had nothing to do with trivia. There were no tallies or rankings provided until the game was over. Trivia rules: if you are going to have an all or nothing wager round, you are supposed to announce the rankings and scores so people know how much to wager. Also, make sure that you announce the topic of the final question CORRECTLY so that people can be confident about their wagers. Also definitely saw the host going to the team next to me asking if they saw my team cheating?? Rude service, too crowded, great beer. Could have been much better, sad to have had a bad experience here, hopefully they will improve by the next...
