Grumpy's Soft Serve at The Bend — Restaurant in Castle Hayne

I was genuinely excited to try Grumpy’s since it’s right up the street from us, and as a father of a family, a local ice cream spot is always a win... or so I thought.

Unfortunately, they lived up to their name – we left grumpy.

First, the serving sizes were inconsistent. As a family, we all ordered the same basic item, but the portions varied noticeably. It didn’t feel fair, especially with kids who notice these things right away.

Then came the kicker: sprinkles. We were charged $1 per person for sprinkles – $4 total – and the amount was minimal. They weren’t dipped or coated generously, just lightly poured on top. Honestly, it felt like a nickel’s worth of sprinkles for a dollar each.

It’s the small things like that that can make or break a first impression. I want to support local, and maybe I’ll give them another chance, but for now I’ll stick with Chick-fil-A or Boombalatti’s for a treat that...

I am 31 weeks pregnant and was craving a vanilla and chocolate twist soft serve ice cream cone. This place absolutely delivered!! I just got a small and it was the perfect portion size for what I was looking for. I got it dipped in chocolate and it definitely helped keep the cone from melting in this hot heat!!
