Excited to try something new local to Castle Pines. I’m Latin, so I may be a little biased to my Moms empanadas, but always happy to try and find something new and hopefully comparable to Moms cooking. After reading reviews, I wanted to try a little bit of everything. This is my honest review per my palate and taste preference with empanadas, but of course you may have a different opinion after trying.
BBQ CHICKEN: chicken was a tad dry. The taste and seasoning was good, and the taste of bbq, but no actual bbq sauce within the chicken, so I added my own sauce. Having additional bbq sauce instead would have made it more moist.
CHICKEN: the chicken was shredded but minced cut, which in my opinion, made the chicken very packed and dry. Seasoning was good, with extra cumin taste, which I like.
SPICY BEEF: my favorite! Very moist and full of flavor! I love very spicy food, so for me, on a 1-10 for spicy, this was a 4. Definitely recommend this flavor.
TRES LECHES: I grew up eating this cake. I’m used to a more wet, still with some breaded cake texture. This cake had a nice flavor, but the cake had more of a custard texture than a wet cake texture. I still recommend.
ALFAJORES: by far the best! Yes, it might be just a light flaky crumble cookie to some, but I’m all about textures when it comes to food…and you’ll definitely get different textures in this cookie. The flaky crumble cookie, smooth chewy dulce del leche, with shredded coconut rolled on the cookie edge. Not too sweet…just right. Absolutely delicious!
Final thoughts: I’d definitely recommend this place. The crust on the empanadas were flaky and tasty. I’m glad I tried a few flavors of the empanadas and desserts. I will continue to purchase my favorites with other...
Read moreWe went to Alta Empanadas to show some love for this Castle Pines business, and wow, are we glad we did! This was our first visit, and it definitely won't be our last. We're already planning our return to try more of their delicious offerings. So far, our favorite empanadas were the Spicy Beef, Caprese, and the Potato and Cheese. For a sweet empanada, the Apple empanada was a stand-out! We're excited to explore more of their menu on our next trip. We also enjoyed their drink selection, particularly the "Stemmari" wine. It's a fruit-forward Chardonnay that isn't overly sweet – very nice indeed. They also have beer. And speaking of sweet, they have a huge selection of desserts! We brought some home to enjoy later. The atmosphere at Alta Empanadas is laid-back and easygoing, making for a very casual dining experience. Plus, the service was incredibly polite and nice, which always makes a difference. We left thinking that Alta Empanadas would be a great idea for catering a party! An assortment of their empanadas paired with a selection of their desserts would be a...
Read moreNot just a place for yummy empanadas!
Food:
I had a caprese empanada, and a limoncello cake. The empanada was wonderful--crispy, tasty and fresh with tomatoes, mozzarella and basil on the inside. Very flaky and delightful to eat. I haven't had many empanadas, but this one is the best I've eaten to date.
The limoncello cake was also delicious. I'm a stickler for good frosting, and this lemon buttercream was light and not sickly sweet. It was very good. The cake was denser than I was expecting, but pleasantly moist and definitely homemade.
4.5/5 for cake.
5/5 for empanada.
Service:
Perfectly pleasant and helpful. No complaints here.
5/5 for service.
Ambiance:
Gorgeous interior with lovely wood slices on the walls.
It looks like the owner had a vision and definitely stuck to it. Spacious for a cafe!
I want to stress this is not just a place for empanadas.
They had a very large bakery selection and that's something Castle Pines is lacking now that the cake shop is gone. Highly recommend...
