Uncle Joe’s Tacos — Restaurant in Castroville

Literally just got done eating here. We have given it NUMEROUS chances but today was the end.

Went for breakfast today, the food was definitely sub par, ordered a plate of "huevos rancheros" and literally got 2 eggs AND A SIDE of salsa. It's like the cook was too lazy to take the time and cook the salsa in. The pastor taco, nothing but grease.... all you could taste was grease, like they didn't bother to strain it while cooking. Couldn't eat it. The "Chilaquiles", also no effort or flavor put into it, literally just scrambled some eggs, threw tortilla crumbs and cheese and called it a "plate".

When I brought up the issues to our server, she "apologized" and said she'd get the manager. Literally sat there and watched the same server continously ignore us and walk by numerous times and making the effort to avoid us as well as watched all the staff just stand around and mingle at the counter like as if we hadnt said anything. I had to finally speak up for the check, and at that, I had to call her again because she didn't bother to say if we paid with her or at the register. And once we did go to the register, the lady there was rude as we explained that the food was terrible as well as the service. We asked to have the huevos rancheros and pastor taco to be removed since we didn't really eat them and all she had to say was, "well, did you return them"? Well, how could I return it WHEN NO ONE CAME BY? I said forget it, paid and left. FOR GOOD.

Terrible food, terrible service, no ounce of care to justify or make things right or even bother to come check and see if the food can be remade or if we'd like something different. I didn't care about paying for the food, it's the fact that the food was horrible and no cared to make things right from either staff or management. Save yourself the time and...

Great location for Alamo Ranch, but they can't handle more than a few customers. I don't recommend until they get better service.

We tried this place several times, and each time was chaotic and horrible. The limited staff disappears, and this last time, multiple customers were upset, looking around for over 40 minutes. The kitchen was full of people, but nothing was going on. People left without getting reimbursed; they waited so long and couldn't get help, so they eventually walked out.

Calling ahead for takeout is an issue as well. Today, we waited over 10 minutes on Hold and then decided to drive there and order in person. The phone was off the hook the whole time. After telling them we were left on Hold on the phone, they didn't do anything about it and left the phone untouched, which makes me think perhaps it was intentional.

I feel so bad for them as I'm sure it's stressful, but they don't have good order or basic service here. They need help big time. Hopefully, it's not ignored and can be rectified so they can succeed. I recommend when they reach their limit to let people know or at least give customers an expected wait time before ordering! After my first visit here, I wanted to wait to write a review. 1st visit wasn't a great experience, the food was not good and seemed pricey for what was given. I went through the drive-through yesterday and grabbed some breakfast tacos, basic bacon egg, and cheese, can't screw that up, right?? .75c to add cheese, seems a little high. 3 tacos cost over $10, and then asking for a tip at the window, this has become an annoyance with most establishments

I get home and dig in, the 1st taco had massive cubes of bacon fat, pure fat, no meat, absolutely disgusting, so after I picked out all the chunks of fat, I moved on to my second, the second one literally had a corner of a block of cheese in it, not grated, just the last bit off the block, and more bacon fat.

I was excited to have some variety in the neighborhood, but if you can't make a good breakfast taco, this explains why everything else we have tried here has been disappointing.
