This is one of the best sushi places in the whole Coachella Valley. It’s family owned and operated, it’s a hidden gem! PLEASE NOTE!!! The reviews of the 1 star, are not really reviews. I eat at this place once a week, they have signs posted on each table explaining the credit card processing fee. I don’t understand why people complain for paying for their own processing fee, AMPM does it, and most establishments are moving towards, passing the credit card fees on to their clients and that’s okay! We as consumers need to understand that a business has so many bills, (Rent, business Insurance, Workers comp, payroll fees, sales tax, income tax) and the list goes on. Why do we give them bad reviews when all they are trying to do is provide a good service? A 4% surcharge on my own bill for using my own credit card is NOT a big deal! Memo’s sushi has not increased their prices since Memo took over this business. There’s sushi restaurants that are charging $18.95 per roll, yet Memo still keeps his prices low and all he does is pass on the credit card fees to us. I feel that this is a fair trade off. Let’s stop complaining over cents and start supporting the local business owners that have been hit severely hard cause of COVID! It’s either that or we tell Memo to raise his prices and cover the cost of processing credit cards. STOP COMPLAINING!!!! A $75 bill cost you a $3 processing fee on your card…. Your complaining over $3!!!???? Really?? Am I understanding this correctly that a consumer can’t pay a $3 fee for your OWN credit card! Then do yourself a favor and stay home! Otherwise if your reading this review, support your local restaurants and don’t give bad reviews for $3!!!?!!!!! Thank you Memo for your good food and service, don’t worry about these snowbirds and non- locals, and Canadians!!! Keep providing your good food and good service and like I said I don’t mind paying my own credit...
Read moreBest Sushi to be found in Palm Springs area. Just a short couple miles east on Ramon will get you to "Joe's". My first visit was with a friend unwavering in his suggested choice of sushi spot. Given the proximity to the sea and the less than "cosmopolitan" flavor of Cathedral City I wasn't very enthused with the notion of sushi from a location wedged between a weinerschnitzel and a tire shop. However, in the spirit of street-food vendors and corner take out windows I hesitantly went along. The space is cramped but no shortage of warm welcome. Ever. Service isnt perfect but easily overlooked when I remind myself of the courage required of the Latina staff to take a server job at a sushi joint in strip mall hell. The vast selections cause any average sushi menu to pale in comparison. The standard and expected varieties are enhanced by inventive and original creations. The same chef manning the walk up counter stools (there are tables too) is surely the source of precise consistency. Portions are grand on the sushi scale with unexpected presentation details. Last but not least the daily specials set Joe's clearly apart from most of valleys lunch choices. An outstanding team effort is obvious and most likely a major element of survival for a bold venture in a tough business. "Joe's" earns all the stars of quality requiring talent, care, and commitment. Falling short of five due only to location which I would predict will soon change to...
Read moreGreat place and staff. Everyone were super friendly and courteous. We got seated pretty quickly being it was a full house. Ambience felt comfy and home-y for my group to the point that we over stayed a bit after they closed. We ordered the #1 bento box, popcorn lobster (I think that's what's called), and two appetizers (gyoza and calamari) and we didn't know how to finish it. The bento was huge and we split it 3 ways with our appetizers and lobster meal that were also a great amount. Great food and would totally recommend this place to anyone who loves sushi. Picture 1: miso soup that comes with the bento box and a comp sushi plate that they gave us Picture 2: popcorn lobster with it's sushi rolls underneath and yes the orchid flowers are edible :)
Edit 2023: Still honestly great. Was empty around the time we went (8ish) and was able to sit anywhere so we sat in the patio. We had bento #1 and #3 and with the four of us we were barely able to finish the whole thing. It's so much food. We also ordered popcorn lobster as our appetizer. They also gave us an on the house plate what looked like stuffed chile rellenos and that was hella tasty so I'll grab that as an appetizer next time. So glad all the food was nice and hot since it was nice and chilly outside so it was a...
