Kim Phung is one of my top favorite restaurants for Asian Cuisine and a location me and my friends and family have enjoyed visiting for over a decade.
A Family favorite that drew our attention to Kim Phung back in the day was their hot and sour soup. Generally speaking, Hot and Sour Soup is not my favorite soup. However, their Hot and Sour Soup is unlike any other. I will admit it's kinda hard to describe in words, it's simply an excellent recipe with a unique taste. The soup is also popular with other customers. So popular that when they temporarily changed the recipe back in 2018, and again in 2019, customers (myself and family members included) started complaining, saying that the old recipe was better. Needless to say, the original recipe is the best! And they were quick to change the recipe back to the original.
Another side dish I enjoy are the crab rangoons. The cheese is nice and fresh and the sauce is a very nice compliment.
As for main dishes, my personal favorites are Orange Chicken, Sesame Chicken, and most recently: General Tso's Chicken. And let's not forget the fried rice. My personal favorite about the rice is the generous addition of extra fried egg.
Their Bun is also a favorite with my family along with their Pho.
The restaurant itself is also very nice. With a green fence with pink tips at the top a nice out door area and a spacious indoor area. They have tables for groups of 4 to 10 per table. So if you have a small group, or a large one, you won't have to worry about space as long as it's available. They even have a small play table for little ones to play with.
All in all a very nice destination for those seeking good tasting Asian Cuisine. Be sure to check it out if your...
Read moreThis used to be a great place back 10 years ago when they were near Target and Lakeline Mall. Then they moved locations and possibly changed owners, and it went downhill from there. Do not confuse this with the original Kim Phung on Lamar in Austin, which except for the location, is great. While the original owner in Cedar Park was a sibling to the owner on Lamar, they are no longer anything close to similar and I don't think it's owned by the same family anymore.
This used to be our #1 placed to eat in Cedar Park before they moved to their current location. We tried them after they moved years ago and it was terrible and hadn't been back in years. So today we thought we try them again and hope it was better. But that is not the case.
I ordered lo-mein for my kids, egg rolls, wonton soup, and lemon grass chicken for my wife and I. The food was okay but nothing like it used to be. I tried to order Vietnamese fried eggrolls (one of their signature dishes) and the waiter had no idea what I was talking about. That's why I think it has changed management after moving. The vegies were cold, the tea was not fresh (possibly instant) and everything was significantly overpriced. A drink is $3 and a meal is $14. We only ordered two dishes, eggrolls, soup, and drinks and our bill was over $80. Had we not split dishes it would have been over $100.
I had a few people give me similar stories and suggest King Noodle. A number of the old Kim Fung employees are their now. There's too may great places in town to waste your time and money on a place like this. We will...
