Hunan Chef — Restaurant in Cedar Park

I really think the good reviews in here are fake. They read like advertising. And this place is so bad. Ok I'm not trying to be mean, but I'm really not exaggerating when i say this is quite possibly in the top 3 worst meals I've ever had. Not just Asian food either, but actual meals. The "spicy" wings were NOT spicy in the slightest. I dare to say they were even bland on top of no spice. Tasted like nothing. I was literally able to give some to my 1.5 year old. It was served with sweet and sour sauce and like some kind of version of ranch? Idk. It wasn't good. It was cooked to the right temp, not too crispy or undercooked. But it was anything but spicy and had no flavor.

THE WORST (i want to throw up just thinking about it) was the Chicken Pad Thai. Whoever made that needs to be taken off the line. This was not Pad Thai. It was basically noodles and a tiny bit of chicken tossed in SOY SAUCE. WHAT??? I mean it was SOAKED. That dish was so SALTY we couldn't even eat it. It's sitting in the trash. It was disgusting. I can't even say it was bland, because it was so SALTY. That's the only flavor I got out of this dish. SALT. So gross. I cannot beg you enough not to order this atrocity. The egg drop soup was just okay, but bland even for egg drop. The pan fried dumplings were also okay, a bit mushy but alright.

All in all the whole experience was awful. The only reason we decided to try this place is because we didn't like the dumplings at Hunan Ranch. But I'd rather eat a mountain of those over anything from this restaurant. We really should've just stuck with Hunan Ranch. At least the food there is good. Human Chef is disgusting. Overall, I'm not just saying we're never going to order from this place again. I'm saying I wish I had a time machine so I could go back and rescue our family dinner tonight. I've had many of the Chinese restaurants on the area and had very inconsistent experiences at all of them.

I finally tried Hunan Chef and have finally found my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. I've eaten here now about 12 or so times and the food has always been consistently good.

The hot and sour soup is easily top 3 best in the area. The steamed dumplings are some of the best I've ever had. Every entree I've eaten has been really good, even my kids have enjoyed the food here and they're not big fans of Chinese food to begin with.

The service has always been top notch as well. I ordered from them via Door Dash, probably the 3rd or so time I had their food. Something was wrong with the way the order/pickup system. Someone picked up my order before the actual Door Dash employee got there. I didn't receive a call from Door Dash but rather a phone call from an employee at Hunan Chef and they told me about the issue and guaranteed that they'd take care of the issue themselves. They duplicated my order and delivered it extremely quickly. I was extremely impressed by this level of service since it technically wasn't even their fault someone else picked up my order.

I see some negative reviews about this place but all-in-all my experience has been top tier with Hunan Chef and it's easily my favorite Chinese place...

Third time ordering from here. Once during the freeze. They said they were open and operating, so I gave it a shot. Ordered at 5:45. Food never came, so cancelled my order. Giving grace on a terrible night. Woke up in the morning to take my dog out, and I had Chinese food for 8 people. Not anywhere close to what I ordered. Second time, a month ago. I’m 10 minutes away, so ordered takeout. Show up, and food is ready. Drive home, get everything prepared, and the General Tsaos taste like the Turkey looked in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation! I drive back, and proceed to wait 35 minutes for them to remake my order. During this time, I watched the young guy, who I assume is the manager/owner refund two different orders. I didn’t ask for a refund this time. Figured I’d give one more chance, in hopes they were able to correct some mistakes. Ordered delivery, and it was fast. Excited to eat, but guess what? Yep, chicken tastes just like the turkey I previously mentioned. The young guy running it, has given away so much money. He works extremely hard. I know this, because I watched him while I waited 35 minutes the last time I ordered. Please, please, please, bring in a consultant.
