Delhicacy — Restaurant in Cedar Rapids

We waited for quite some time before we visited due to having to make reservations, and with family, we wanted to be able to drop in. It was worth the wait to have wonderful Indian food!

Restaurant Layout/Vibe Rating - 5 Stars

We love the layout of this location. It's open with different varieties of seating. Traditional sit-down seating, booths, tables. I loved that individual booths had location names like Mumbai, for instance. Once you have seated yourself, the waiter will check in to see what drinks you would like for the table. From that point, you use the QR code on your table (Cardboard popup) to open up a tab and place your orders. Throughout the meal, I added drinks by going back to that tab that was open and adding new drinks.

Customer Service Rating - 5 Stars

I was pleasantly surprised by the speed of service. When we initially sat down, I saw only two waiters. However, our speed of service was incredible with the QR code ordering method and a button that you can push at any time to request assistance. I would go as far as to say the speed was faster than a fully staffed restaurant with multiple waiters taking multiple tables.

Food Rating - 4 Stars

The food was quite excellent. I gave the food 4 stars and was not due to taste, but spice. I love spicy food. However, our children don't have the same spice level as me, and even on the mildest option, some food was a bit spicy for them. They love eating jalapeños so that it gives you some idea of the spice level.

Appetizer - 4 Stars

I ordered street tacos and Naan. They were both fantastic, and I would defiantly order them again. The street tacos were loaded with large chunks of chicken and tasted much like butter chicken.

Main Course - 5 Stars

For our main course, we tried a variety, and you can see some of them in the pictures below. I loved the Tiki masala and Eggplant dish we ordered. Delicious!

Drinks - 5 Stars

The drinks I ordered were strong and made correctly. Great job!

Horrible Experience – Stay Away!

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I placed an order through their website, received confirmation of my payment and order, and after waiting an hour, I went to pick it up—only to be told by the rude lady at the counter that they were not taking orders and that my order had gone through due to a “glitch” in their system. A glitch?! They had an entire hour to contact me, but instead, they let me waste my time driving there, only to be met with complete indifference.

When I asked for a refund, the same lady had the audacity to say, “We’ll look into that tomorrow and issue the refund in 48 hours.” Excuse me?! You took my money instantly, failed to provide the food, and now you’re making me wait two more days for a refund? Absolutely unacceptable.

Not only was the service non-existent, but the attitude was disgusting. The staff clearly do not care about customers and act like they are doing us a favor by even acknowledging our presence. No apology, no solution—just pure arrogance.

This restaurant is a complete joke. They don’t care about genuine customers and operate with zero professionalism. Avoid this place at all costs, and do yourself a favor—spend your money where businesses actually care. Never going back, and I’ll be telling everyone I know to stay far away from this disaster of a restaurant.

Response to your comment below - I appreciate the response, but your version of events doesn’t match my experience. I was never offered the option to have my food made or to wait. Additionally, claiming I was ‘abusive’ is completely unfair—I did nothing inappropriate or try to set a false narrative as you are doing in below comment. I understand technical issues happen, but the way this was handled made it...

Edit: definitely needed to edit my previous review. I’m incredibly disappointed in our visit to Delhicacy this evening. We were seated quickly. After waiting about 15 min we tried to use the online ordering. The website wasn’t working. It only listed drinks and desserts. We used the button on the table to call the wait staff. One server appeared quickly, and when we told her that it wasn’t working, she said she knew nothing about it and couldn’t help. So we asked to put an order in with her, and were told we’d have to wait at least 10 min to put in an order. Approximately 15 more min later, our order was taken. It took 30+ min for our food to arrive.

I always order spice level 2. My meal came and t was incredibly hot. The butter chicken sauce wasn’t orange, but dark red. Even with all the rice and a fraction of the sauce, it was way too hot. Waited for the server to come around to ask how the meal was, and I explained about the spice. I asked him to confirm what the order was. He said it said 2, and when I said it couldn’t possibly be a 2, he just shrugged and said ‘sorry’. No offer to bring me some sour cream, more rice, no offer to assist at all. Very disappointing. I couldn’t eat more than a couple of bites. The other food and drinks were fine. My previous review was 5 stars. This one, due to the poor service, is a 1 star. So I’ve averaged it to a 3.
