We where seated right away which was nice. It was loud on a Friday evening (5:30 ish) but I could lean over a bit and hear my husband talk. And employees always had masks on (some people may still want to know). Only complaint I have is we were seated right in front of the sushi bar, So we saw my husband's dinner bento box brought out to sit there while my sushi order sat in their queue to make. (Lots of pick up/delivery orders mixed In, pretty sure that's why I had to wait so long compared to his) I honestly would have preferred if they just gave my husband his meal hot and I wouldn't have minded waiting for my sushi. His meal sat there for a while. When we both got our meals his was a little above Luke warm. Friendly staff and they were always picking up our empty dishes or glasses and were great about refilling my drink. So my advice is to order from the same section so that both can come out together fresh. I will be back personally because I loved the sushi, but my husband isn't that interested.

The food was excellent. Seasoned just enough to be appetizing without triggering your blood pressure. It arrived to our table in a timely manner. Was well cooked and delicious. I loved how even the kids nuggets and fry meal came with sushi and fried rice. My daughter loved the rice & I highly recommend if you have a small child ordering this option. It gives them something they are familiar with along with the chance to try something new. The pricing was also good especially for the serving size. Even though they are open late…..I don’t recommend going after 9 if you are looking to relax and dine. Even though they don’t kick you out, they do subliminally rush you at about 10:05. They begin circling constantly around your tab and the ladies who clean tend to shoot you this hurry up glare. Our waiter though, he was a young funny guy who moved fast. But yeah he definitely gave started circles around our table about 10:05. I’d still go back though, just at 7 vs 9.

Oyama is a teppanyaki restaurant with two divisions of the restaurant, separated by a central sushi bar area. Despite being located in a suburban area of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the fish selection was moderately expansive and included many of the usual fare - yellowtail, white tuna, mackerel, and others included. Given the land area, the fish is shipped in every few days, which means no real daily specials or immediate "water to table" fish, but for Iowa, the quality bar was quite high. The making selection includes all of the usual expectations, as well as a mini menu of "special" rolls. When multiple hibachi tables are in use at once, it can get loud and sometimes hot on that side of the restaurant. Also, sake lovers will need to realize this is an area where demand and taste do not drive much of a selection. Expect (and enjoy) the basics.

Standard service and an okay atmosphere. The booths are not great. I'm sitting there eating and someone coming into the booth behind me and the booth moves knocking my utensils our of my hands. The food could use some tender loving care. The breading on the tempura shrimp is way too think and chewy (especially if you don't eat them first). If I had to guess the breading is put on there with water instead of a milk and egg mixture resulting in more of a cement foundation. I prefer my tempura to be lightly battered where the only thing that you get from it is the crunch around the vegetable or shrimp. The teriyaki sauce is way too think and sweet. The clear soup was good but just a bit too peppery. The salad was great. I probably won't try this restaurant again, but I will try to find an alternative. A bit pricy for lunch.

I had a great lunch experience here in Oyama. The waitstaff was very kind, upbeat, and happy to serve and accommodate. Each employee that passed me had a smile on their face. This restaurant is very clean, and I enjoyed being able to sit by the sushi arrangement station where I could see the food being made. Everything was fresh and neatly organized / separated. The menu is consise, but still has some chef specials with a unique flair that I don't commonly find at other sushi establishments. The dining area was spaced out and didn't feel too cramped. I ordered something basic, just to test the waters. I got the shrimp tempura roll as well as the spider roll. Not only was the presentation was stunning, it tasted great. Even though it's considered a more "basic" sushi, I thought they did a great job. Highly recommend!

Server was HORRIBLE. We had table of 4. Our drink service........3 parties received their beverages and I received mine 10 min later. Our food did not come out at the same time. My friends really enjoyed their entrees.....a sushi roll and sashimi. My rolls were a step below grocery store. Sushi was sliced too large fell apart while trying to eat. Rice did not stick together. Dessert fried Ice cream was horrible. Our guest is a chef and managed a restaurant stated dessert appeared to have been pre made. I had to ask repeatedly for sauce. I was given a soup bowl of yum yum sauce and a tiny amt of spicy mayo (I guess with the price of eggs being so expensive mayo has skyrocketed)...
