In the sun-blasted heart of Chandler, Arizona, a culinary mirage emerges from the heat - Hawaiian BBQ Nishikawa Ramen. It's a spot where the relentless desert sun meets a refuge of rich, steamy broth, a place that's transformed from an anonymous dot on the map into a bastion of flavor under new management. It's not just a restaurant; it's a psychedelic revelation of taste and scent. Take the Potato Wrapped Shrimp, for instance. These shrimps, bold and brash, are swathed in potato string wrappings, and fried to crispy perfection. These wrappings resemble miniature straight jackets, symbolizing a defiance that's as palatable as it is visual. They're not just food; they're edible acts of rebellion. The Gyoza came drenched in sauce, this initially raised suspicions – a bold move. But, the sauce was perfect, a stroke of genius that made me wonder why I'd ever doubted the cook's anarchic methods. Then comes the main event - the Ramen. This isn't just soup; it's a culinary insurrection in a bowl. The noodles, each twist a labyrinth of taste, swim in a broth that's a masterclass in flavor. Kimchi comes along as the perfect sidekick, its zest resonating with every slurp. And the Beef Ribs? They're not just ingredients; they're a revelation, soaking up the broth and whispering the ancient secrets of the ramen world. The Teriyaki Chicken, a seemingly innocent bystander in this flavor riot, brings a comforting embrace with its short-grain Japanese rice and vegetables. It’s the kind of dish that makes you want to settle down and start a family, only to run away to Japan the next morning. As for the ambiance, it's like stepping into a manga. The decor, a modern twist on anime, features black-and-white scenes of Naruto and Demon Slayer characters, all slurping ramen in a surreal Tokyo nightscape. The service? It's more than just waiting tables; it's culinary guardianship, ensuring your experience is as endless as the bottom of your cup. But here's the kicker - a place where Ramen meets Hawaiian-style BBQ. It's a fusion that's as unexpected as it is brilliant. A declaration that in this culinary dreamscape, all flavors stand tall and proud. Conclusion: Hawaiian BBQ Nishikawa Ramen is more than a dining spot. It's a culinary oasis this desert we call Chandler, a place where traditional norms are shattered and reborn into something untamed, something wildly free. If you find yourself in Chandler, make the pilgrimage. Come for the ramen, stay for the BBQ, and leave with your taste buds awakened and your soul stirred.

The Hawaiian BBQ Mix plate was incredible. Each of the 3 meats Beef, Chicken and Kalbi Short Ribs were tender, juicy and flavorful! It was a very "WOW" experience for me, I was blown away how good it was. Honestly it was probably the best BBQ Hawaiian food I've ever had, including when I was in Hawaii! I highly recommend Nishikawa Hawaiian BBQ! Most Hawaiian BBQ in town are counter service (order & pay first), this one is dine-in service. I appreciated my server, he was very attentive to me the entire time. I can't wait to go back! (original review 6/12/24) UPDATE 7/23/24: I've been back about 12 times now over the last 6 weeks and have brought multiple people with me! All of my family members & friends agree that this place is fantastic! I appreciate that it's very consistent! We've tried the Ramen, Seafood, Katsu and other items, and are impressed with everything that we try! We loved the Island Fire Chicken, which had fantastic flavor - but warning - the default spice level is quite spicy (you can order that mild if you can't handle spicy). I'm looking forward to more meals here, as Nishikawa Hawaiian BBQ is a very reliable experience!

Wow... I'm truly wondering about peoples perception on what is poor vs. good. My personal opinion is that area meaning state/city may have something to do with the accuracy of reviews. Parking was ample because the plaza is pretty stagnant. We were quickly not pleasantly greeted, note there is a difference especially when the location isn't busy. They took extremely long to come back to the table to take our order. I ordered rice with pork belly, wow so bad. The rice was COLD and I expected a nice piece of pork belly but instead got some thin slices that were almost transparent and dry. My wife ordered a soy based ramen and char siu bowl. We noticed that there wasn't any char siu but a piece of stewed pork belly. I called the waitress over to tell her and she told me that is char siu... NOT TRUE. I make char siu frequently and my wife is Chinese and grew up in the restaurant business. We damn well know the difference. Shame on them. Poor food, poor service, outdated look and simply an overall loss. Needless to say we won't be back ever!

First off, I’d like to say that I’m giving them three stars, but they deserve four or more if not for what I’m about to describe. We went there today for the third time this year- we always have a fantastic experience and great customer service. Today was particularly packed and it looked like there was only 4 people actually working- roughly 5-8 customers per employee. These guys were BUSY. They did their absolute best greeting and thanking guests as they leave/exit. We signed in on their tablet and got a table within minutes. We were promptly given a menu and our waters, but it did take a considerable amount of time to be asked if we were ready. Based on our interactions with the two employees, it seemed like they were either understaffed and stressed out, or maybe they are just a little socially awkward. They were real nice- don’t get me wrong- but there’s something about how impatient or visibly annoyed they seemed that it made me feel awkward being there and having the audacity to eat in their space. We got the food and it was fresh and ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! We finished, but our waiter looked right past us and I had to prompt them to bring us the bill- we told them to split it but they didn’t. I didn’t want to wait another thirty minutes for it back, so I just took the L and covered both bills. We never got our waitresses name, as she didn’t state it, we didn’t ask, and they don’t have name tags. I don’t want to convey that I had a bad experience but I feel like I wasn’t truly welcome or valued in there. I’ll never forget this experience and I’m hoping the next ramen place won’t make me...

Review Update: From 5 to 4.

As anyone who had read my previous review knows that I love Nishikawa. I loved the curry ramen and the rest of their menu so what gives? A change in quality is all I can really say. So where to start?

The Curry Ramen

Okay so this is hard to say. Actually it isn't but what gives? The curry ramen had the thick creamy broth with that Japanese curry spice. Now its just... A shadow of its former self. Now with a watery broth that focuses more on pleasing spice fans than Japanese curry fans. I understand that you needed a bowl to fill that niche of spicy food but you could have done that with a different bowl. Now my favorite is gone, replaced with a tea like broth which ruins the curry bowl by tasting like hot sauce and not even curry. If youre gonna do anything, please fix the curry bowl.

Appetizers.

Suprisingly my favorites are still fine, Nishikawa is safe in that regard so if you like gyoza or karage. You're safe.

Conclusion.

Until I go back for more, I can say I am dissapointed. As a customer I appreciate change, but this is not positive. I still need to check the other bowls for changes but as it stands I am disappointed by the change to.my favorite bowl. While if this is a change at all locations or a change in chef then I hope that this tea like broth doesn't spread to the tonkatsu or any other bowl. As to me, that will be the day when Nishikawa feels more like a better version of cup noodles. Than a storefront that reminds me of the ramen...
