The first time I went to Pepe's Mexican food under new management somebody recommended them to me so I went to order something for the first time I had tacos, beef tacos, with rice and beans, The beans were a little bit soggy but they were okay unless that's the way they are the rice was good The meat was fresh , I only eat beef tacos. I like because they had horchata, and drinking water. And outside it was clean The only thing there was a lot of flies. They keep coming around when I was eating.. but overall everything was good. I think it's so important that everything is clean especially when you're eating. The food is prepared fresh which it was cuz , He told me that he's the cook. Oh the only thing was that it had two yellow things inside I think it was chilly which I cannot eat but I just took it out no biggie. And I ordered things without onions and chili only mild sauce made out of tomato. ( I went for the second time but I think that you didn't understand what I was saying I told her that I can only eat beef no pork so when I ate the taco I think it was pork and it was very dry and choked a little bit on it but I ate a little bit of it I hope it wasn't pork cuz I don't eat pork only beef. I talked to the young lady that worked there and I guess they gave me the wrong thing but that's okay next time I go for the third time I'll make sure it's 100% beef but the owner or the guy that serves me the first time is the one that cooks the meat This one was different so next time I go I'll make sure that he is there The cook or the owner of the Pepe's Mexican restaurant under new management. Everything was clean outside the only thing was there was a lot of flies. It was a little difficult to eat my, food. Because they were all over the area but overall the food was delicious I had to call to get some tortillas side orders cuz they got really busy I think it's because I put it on Facebook. When I order my tortillas I got them as soon as they were not busy in the tortillas were good The first time I went I was referred to them but my hairdresser. I asked them where is your place to eat and they said that the place was good and they had good food and it was under new management. Thank you so much to the new owners of the place, pepes Mexican restaurant under new management. I hope the computers filled it right....
Read moreI shouldn't be rating this place as I have not been here to eat since my uncle, Pepe, ran it. He still owns it, but leased it out to someone else. I worked there from 1992-almost 2003. If you were a regular there during that time, I most likely knew you. Id work 7 days a week sometimes. One thing I was proud about how my uncle ran it is how he really cared about the customers. Any complaint to him, he would handle without question if he was around. He would check everything to make sure it was up to par, and would yell at his cooks if something was wrong. It might have been harsh,, but he wanted perfection for his customers. The people that knew him, loved him. He was nice, polite, and understanding. The burritos would barely fit in the bags and were priced almost the same as the ones in the downtown Oxnard at that time. Tacos were made with the regular corn tortilla size you by at the store what are like three times the size as street tacos and were only $1.47, when street tacos were like $1.25 or more downtown at that time. You would think because of it's location by the beach it would be a whole lot more. Again, I have no clue what this place is like today as far as the food. I just read a lot of the reviews that compared it to the old school. There was only one uncle Pepe, and I hope this place is at least decent since the torch was passed....
Read morePepe's is a go to Mexican Restaurant, when there is No Place else to go. From what I've gathered, the former owner was much more down to earth and a little less greedy! Raymond, although okay, does leave a little to be desired. Frankly, the food is Not that great either. If you try the tamale, prepare for a weird experience. The flavor was Not what I've come to expect from a tamale. Perhaps the masa mixture wasn't up to par today? Not really sure what happened, but it wasn't very pleasant. On to the fish taco. Looked great, tasted good, but why wasn't the fish crispy? It was deep fried, but perhaps this was a piece that wasn't recently cooked? Not sure. Raymond, get real with Your Prices, man. In addition, please check the masa mixture on your tamales. Lastly, when someone asks if the parking in front of your 'shack' is valid parking, Don't come at them and say, 'are you gonna buy anything?' Dude, you Do Not Own the Public Streets of Oxnard! Relax before you bust a vein.
Would I try Pepe's again? Ehhh gotta give them another chance to redeem themselves, but Seriously, a lot has...
